@YVRREWatcher I don't have any charts on this yet, but my best guess is > 140k. Here is something that is published by StatsCan. It looks like the top 20% has 80% of the savings. The next quintile has 20% of the savings and the remaining 60% doesn't have any saving.

StatsCan released the household income data yesterday. Canadians are keeping their wallets shut: household disposable income grew, but expenditure didn't follow. This only happened to this extent in the early 90s during the housing crisis. Check the full chart in the comments.

2/2 The green highlight areas shows the only two times when disposable income grew, but households didn't raise their expenditure. My theory: the top 20% earners saves their income growth while the bottom 60% spends it on necessities and can't expand their consumption.

@LandlordRescue @kbessey Don’t agree with you often, but yup. When my lease expires in September I’ll be looking for the same offer they’re giving new tenants, a reduction in rent or I’m out. Seems a lot more PBRs are completing in Vancouver this year too so it’s just gonna get worse for them.

@kbessey Ultimately that’s the answer especially for tenant quality and later retention. If you’re giving away 2 months rent next year these tenants are looking for the next 2 months free rent or lower rent.

Old rates and news. Looks like they removed all promoted listings, cut rents, and hired a single agent to save on marketing costs. Spending thousands of dollars on marketing and incentives just to realize you need to rent at market. @kbessey @hamishrb @fabulavancouver The newer building I’m in leased out their decent quality 2br2bath places pretty quick with only 1 month free but are desperate to get tenants for the 1br and studios. They’re doing 2 months free + $500 prepaid gift cards now lol. Doesn’t seem to be working

If you combine the data for Jan-Feb, the provinces most affected by job losses in 2026 are Ontario, Quebec and BC. Alberta is the province with most gain in jobs.
