@AmanLoodu Yeah, this was a park and current residents didn’t want these towers in *their* park, but didn’t mention it was less than 100 years ago that residents had violently pushed the Musqueam off their recognised land to build homes and park. I hope they stay mad.

@hamishrb @fabulavancouver The company in the photos leasing the building don’t even have the agreement to lease it anymore. I know the agent, know how many units are still vacant, etc. So to me—they are old rates and old news.

Old rates and news. Looks like they removed all promoted listings, cut rents, and hired a single agent to save on marketing costs. Spending thousands of dollars on marketing and incentives just to realize you need to rent at market. This is the rental market today. vancouver.craigslist.org/van/apa/d/vancvancouver.craigslist.org/van/apa/d/vanc
CityHallWatch@CityHallWchVAN

New rental building at Kingsway and Clark. Advertised rental rates: studios ($2050-2350), 1-bed ($2295-2650), 2-bed ($3250-3900) & 3-bed or townhome ($4295-4850/month).

@kbessey @fabulavancouver You said these were old rates and old news, implying these numbers were wrong, and then when we see evidence that they **are** current rates you’re saying that they are “likely” wrong? Pardon me if CityHallWatch seems a lot more credible than you do!

@hamishrb @fabulavancouver This is bottom of the range for the 1’s. A 620ft is very likely to be the largest. They are trending down on the range and they’ll likely continue to fall by my estimation.

@acoyne If you were educated here then likely plenty in elementary and high school before you actually got to vote. It’s not exactly the same, you’d still be a citizen the whole time and get to vote even if you didn’t graduate. But the point is most citizens are educated and tested

@fabulavancouver @OneCityVan I really loved @OneCityVan for years. 6 floors and corner stores really resonated with me. Then, we elect Lucy who keeps approving 25+ storeys with significant opposition. Then, they bring on two absolute quacks from Abundant Housing. They’ve lost the plot, cannot back them.

Dear my delightful tweeps, some news! So after 30 years of City Hall and urban-issues stories that you all know, I'm doing something completely different — I’ve decided to run for a City Council nomination with @OneCityVan and hopefully run on their slate this October.

Last year I pushed the government to finally act on ending the twice-a-year clock change. British Columbians were clear. The legislation was already there. The delays had gone on long enough. Now it’s done. B.C. moves to permanent Pacific time and the clock change is gone for good #cdnpoli #bcpoli

The Sen̓áḵw design is crystalline yet warm with mirror-like surfaces catching the sky, water and sunset-toned elements. It is a wonderful departure from Vancouver’s usual blue-glass monotony.

@steipete When Lex recognized the short term pain these changes will cause, in terms of people losing their jobs, you didn’t acknowledge it, just responded with more of the positives. Would have been nice to hear some concern.

@mortimer_1 This argument has been used every time when it comes to worker rights. “If you don’t like working in a coal mine for 80 hours a week in unsafe conditions for peanuts go find another job, chortle chortle chortle”

Any worker complaining about whether they have to return to office should read their employment agreements. And if they don’t like it, they are more than free to find another job. Seems like a simple solution if they are so unhappy.

We fully stand with Vancouver dog owners in opposition to Metro Vancouver's proposed new restrictions to off leash areas in Pacific Spirit Park. I will be writing a letter to Metro Vancouver's parks committee calling on them to vote down this shortsighted proposal.

@newstart_2024 IQ is not enough of a predictor that it cannot be overcome with other variables like work ethic. Does this mean higher IQ people can be lazier to achieve the same outcome? In theory yes. In practice we see those with high IQs like James William Sidis fail to achieve anything.

"No one likes that idea" Jordan Peterson: IQ is largely unitary, highly heritable, and brutally unfair. It predicts long-term success in complex jobs better than almost anything. Smart parents → smart kids (but regression to mean pulls toward average 100). Identical twins separated at birth? By age 60, IQs so similar it's like testing the same person—environment barely diverges them. You can't train general IQ up with games/puzzles (task gains don't transfer). But cardio + weights help maintain it as you age; early nutrition (breastfeeding adds ~3-4 points per year) + stimulation matter in childhood. No one's figured out how to meaningfully raise it—yet. This 3:58 clip confronts why the "cards aren't dealt equally." Does knowing IQ is mostly genetic change how you view opportunity, merit, or inequality?

@IRPlawyer “Trickle down economics hasn’t worked that well because the highest tax brackets haven’t been reduced enough.” Doubling down on failed policy is frequently the sign of ideology rather than rational thought.
