@Yadayada07 @ettingermentum And I know you’re joking but considering you’re a self described “DemSoc” who reposts Bernie and AOC, describing our labor brokers and sisters as “cringe” and “conservative-coded” is a big part of why Trump got two terms.

@ettingermentum Poli sci is so broad that the major itself doesn’t necessarily always carry the same connotations. Political Econ or just Econ is the way to go. As far as social sciences at least.

@manlikemishap @alexolegimas on that note would you not say econ as a field has very low elasticity - hence high replaceability when AI automates all the data analysis and modelling?

I've been meaning to put together a little what we've learned after three years of GPTs^2 reflection piece, I think folks understood this well when we released but it's become too tempting for folks to replicate with a different rubric rather than go a step deeper.
Alex Imas@alexolegimas

Also: *EXPOSURE DOES NOT MEAN THREAT OF DISPLACEMENT* *EXPOSURE DOES NOT MEAN THREAT OF DISPLACEMENT* *EXPOSURE DOES NOT MEAN THREAT OF DISPLACEMENT* It can literally mean the opposite: AI exposed jobs may increase hiring and attract higher wages. It all depends on a) elasticity of consumer demand and b) number of AI exposed tasks in a job.

Computer science is gradually returning to the domain of physicists, mathematicians, and electrical engineers as large language models automate much of what we currently call software engineering. The field’s center of gravity is shifting away from manual code writing and toward deeper theoretical thinking, mathematical insight, and systems-level reasoning.

Has Noah ever condemned the massacre of 70,000 Gazans? Has he ever condemned the brutal apartheid regime in the West Bank, where settlers can terrorize and even murder without consequence? If so, I haven’t seen it. His moral outrage is always one-sided.
Noah Smith 🐇🇺🇸🇺🇦🇹🇼@Noahpinion

There are two kinds of leftists: Those who loudly and publicly cheered for the 10/7 massacre, and those who quietly and discreetly cheered for the 10/7 massacre.

I still don't think we have crystal-clear, I-will-hear-no-objections evidence of AI's effect on the macroeconomy. And yet. If you asked me "what would change your mind here?" I'd probably say, "emerging evidence of a productivity boom combined with a major slowdown in tech sector hiring and employment." This week, we got both.
Joey Politano 🏳️‍🌈@JosephPolitano

Brutal numbers for US tech sector jobs released today—overall, employment decreased by 12k last month and is down 57k over the last year That's now nearly as bad as the worst of the 2024 tech-cession, and significantly worse than either the 2008 or 2020 recessions

Iran's FARS (state media) reports fresh waves of ballistic missiles, cruise missiles & drones targeting Israeli cities (Tel Aviv, Jerusalem) + US military bases/installations across the region, incl. Jordan & Gulf states (UAE, Kuwait, Bahrain). This is day 6 of retaliation for US/Israeli strikes on Iran that killed Supreme Leader Khamenei & hit 1,000+ sites. Confirmed by BBC, AP, Reuters. Not ships primarily, but land bases & some infrastructure. Escalation ongoing.

@KolakPatolik1 @mantegetyt @pchbluue I don't think you're capable of understanding the comparison i was seeking to draw about how modern morality ever since christianity is about helping the poor, need and rehabilitative justice. a fine western idea if anything. no one's demanding anything from you

@KolakPatolik1 @mantegetyt @pchbluue i'm good lol. I personally don't want to immigrate to europe, it's a pretty stagnant economy. and yeah, you do need cheaper labour given your slowing demographics but i don't intend on being that. And you're Polish lol, you've mooched off the wealthier EU countries and the US😭

@KolakPatolik1 @mantegetyt @pchbluue right it's mostly a question of your personal morality. if i said- I am physically superior to this woman hence i raped her. why should i care- you would think i'm a crazy depraved human. do you have the empathy in you to set historical injustices right? i can't force you.

@KolakPatolik1 @mantegetyt @pchbluue I don't think that you've got to do that. I think you guys should do historical reparations directly to such nations but that's a different discussion, much like how i think the whites ought to do the same for the African community in the US or upper castes to lower ones in India

@mantegetyt @pchbluue This is laughbly stupid. You expect me to believe that Europe went into countries and "ruled" colonies out of the goodness of their heart for 400 years? Colonialism actively made other countries poorer to benefit certain elite in Europe even if not the state as whole

@Yadayada07 @pchbluue The historical facts don't support your assertion. When you look at the ledgers, colonialism (1st and 2nd wave) was very expensive for little to no gain. Europe burdens itself for centuries in an attempt to lift the rest of the world up and all we get in return is ressentiment.

@pchbluue Europe and its peoples do not exist to feed your ego and fuel your career. Your arrogance and entitlement is downright solipsistic. You should be incredibly thankful the option even exists for foreigners to come and study in the EU.
