Matt Damon says Clint Eastwood told him Unforgiven was the script he went back to after 5 years of failed rewrites “I said to him, 'Hey boss, you know that scene on Tuesday, do you mind if I tinker with the dialogue?' And he goes, 'Yeah, sure. Go ahead.'” “I go, 'I wrote it and I rewrote it all weekend. I wrote it probably 27 drafts and then I got it perfect and I looked back and it was exactly the same as I originally was.'” “He goes, 'I worked for five years on this thing and it wasn't getting better and I couldn't figure it out.'” “He said, 'I'm making your script exactly as you wrote it.' And I said, 'No way. What movie?' And he said, 'Unforgiven.'”

Anne Hathaway and Matt Damon said The Odyssey relies on in-camera effects instead of being fixed in post, with Hathaway saying she hopes it shows young people what can be created on camera. Anne Hathaway: …and this, you know, person goes, “Uh, well, they’re going to fix it in post.” And I went, “No, that’s the thing, they’re not.” And so, that’s one of the things I’m excited about for, like, young people who are so used to the idea that so much of what movies are, are created in a computer. I think it’s so exciting for young people in particular to understand that this was all created in a camera. Matt Damon: And also to know that the reason for that is that when you do a special effect, you film on this film and you get the negative. And if you do a special effect, you have to run the film through another stage in order to… and so there’s a slight degradation of the film. And Chris wants every single film print that you see to be a direct positive print right from that negative so that there’s nothing separating you and this experience that we all had. Yeah. Anne Hathaway: And so, I think when you take something like that that’s really granular and intimate, and then you apply it to something where the story is so epic, nothing comes to mind that’s similar except for, like, the greats like Lawrence of Arabia. But, I don’t know, they’ll tell us. Matt Damon: Yeah. Yeah, they’ll tell us. You guys will tell us. (laughs)

Everyone says streaming is killing movie theaters. Christopher Nolan says they’ve been saying that for 70 years. Interviewer: Whenever there’s a Christopher Nolan film out, people always ask, “Is Christopher Nolan going to save cinema?” Christopher Nolan: No pressure. Matt Damon: No pressure at all. Interviewer: What do you think people mean when they say that? Christopher Nolan: since television came along in the 1950s, people have kept saying something new would kill cinema. then it was VHS, now it’s streaming. but that’s never what happens. The business models change… What doesn’t change is going to a theater with a room full of strangers and laughing, crying, and experiencing a story together. I don’t think that’s going anywhere. Interviewer: A lot of people say streaming is killing cinema. Christopher Nolan: Technology changes, distribution changes. What doesn’t change is people’s appetite for great storytelling. Interviewer: Room for everyone. Matt Damon: Room for everyone, for sure.

Think you could handle a boss who never gives compliments? Tom Holland and Matt Damon explain why Christopher Nolan’s quietness on set is actually the ultimate motivator. Interviewer: How did you know when you nailed a scene with Chris? Matt Damon: Oh no, it's the same every time. It's like, "Well, alright. Good. Yeah. Let's move on." You just have to imagine that he's told you, "Fantastic." But the fact that we're on set is evidence that he's enjoying our work, so let's get on with it. Interviewer: Did you ever miss somebody saying, "Well done"? Tom Holland: For me, it gave me so much drive to continue to try and impress him. With Chris, he's able to kind of inspire this endurance to do your best work. Now that the movie is done, we sat down and he chatted about how happy he was with my work, so that accumulated right at the end.

Caleb Hammer said if losing $20 means the roof over your head is gone, then you’ve got a house you cannot afford. Woman: Talked to these freaking Social Security people on Friday. Told the dude, “I can’t pay back that money. If you take even $20 out of the paycheck, you will cause us to lose our house.” Caleb: Wait, what? Brandon: Well, that’s crazy. $20, you’re losing your house? Caleb: Then you got a house you cannot afford. Some… what does she have to pay back? Was she getting, like, fraud disability? Brandon: What is she having to pay back? You know what’s funny? We’re going to uncover that. Woman: They’re taking $100. $100 until two grand is paid back. Caleb: Oh… Woman: It was nice being in a house for a little bit, I guess. Might as well start selling all my shit and packing my boxes. Caleb: You should sell things, yes. Woman: Fucking hate this state. Caleb: Oh, okay. I still don’t know why she got it back yet, but you should never be in a place where the roof over your head is going to be gone if you lose $20 Brandon: Or $200. Caleb: …the f… Gen Z was saying we’re evil for saying they shouldn’t get $28 lunch here and there. Twenty dollars and you lose the roof over your head? What world are we living in? That’s not the state’s fault. Brandon: X is going to have a field day with that one.

Caller: “Dave… I’m facing 3 years in federal prison because of fraud my husband committed using my name. We’ve been married 23 years, and he controlled all the money.” Dave Ramsey: “Are you still married to him?” Caller: “Yes… but I was in a financially abusive relationship. He handled everything, put documents in my name, and my attorney told me to plead guilty.” Dave Ramsey: “The first thing you need to do is file for divorce. He doesn’t get to control your life anymore.” Caller: “I’m terrified. I have a graduate degree in epidemiology, but who’s going to hire someone with a felony conviction?” Dave Ramsey: “Don’t let your conviction become your identity. Be honest about what happened, own your mistakes, and let employers see your skills and character.” Caller: “I’m scared I’ll have nothing when I get out.” Dave Ramsey: “Start preparing now. Build relationships with your church, create a support system for your children, and make a plan for the day you’re released.” Caller: “It feels like my life is over.” Dave Ramsey: “No. This isn’t the end of your story. Ironically, you said the best year of your marriage was when your husband was in prison. Now you have the chance to rebuild your life without the abuse and finally write a different future.” Do you think someone who has served their sentence deserves a second chance in the workplace?

Ethan Suplee says the biggest reason he was finally able to lose over 200 pounds was changing the habits that made him gain the weight in the first place. Joe Rogan : “Dude, you look like a gorilla. You look like a dangerous human being. How did you do it?” Ethan Suplee : “Over the past 20 years, I’ve gone back and forth with dieting.” “I’ve lost a lot of weight, and I’ve gained a lot of weight back.” “What’s been sustainable is undoing the bad habits that got me to 550 pounds.” “That’s more important than any diet I could tell you about.” Joe Rogan : “When did the process start?” Ethan Suplee : “In 2002, when I decided I wanted to change my life.” “I started at 550 pounds.” “I did a liquid diet for two months and lost 80 pounds.” “I never gained those 80 pounds back.” “I got down to under 300, then went back up to 400.” “Then I got down to 200, back up to 350.” “For the past five years, I’ve stayed around my current weight.” Joe Rogan: “What are you at now?” Ethan Suplee : “270.” Joe Rogan: “That is incredible. You’ve lost more than 200 pounds.”

Ben Affleck Admits He Hates Hollywood Events and Wishes His Family Life Stayed Private. Theo Von: You seem like someone who both likes and dislikes Hollywood. Ben Affleck: That's true. I love making movies, but I don't enjoy the Hollywood lifestyle. I'm a private person—I don't like big events, being on camera in my everyday life, or having my family constantly scrutinized. I knew fame came with the job, so I deal with it, but I wish I enjoyed that side of the business more.

Before Michael B. Jordan directed ‘Creed 3,’ Ben Affleck gave him one piece of advice he wishes he’d fully followed. Ben Affleck: When you started directing, what did you feel most confident about… and what were you taking a shot on? Michael B. Jordan: The fight scenes, I’d been daydreaming about those since Creed 1. I knew I wanted to bring anime into the action and make the fights feel different. What I wasn’t confident about was the intimate one-on-one scenes and directing myself. I actually called you and asked, “How do I know when I’ve got the shot?” Ben Affleck: Every actor-director told me the same thing, don’t shortchange your own coverage. You’re gonna want to be the hero, shoot everyone else’s takes, then give yourself one take and move on. You’re gonna regret it. Michael B. Jordan: I was just getting ready to say that, I did exactly that. Then I watched the dailies and thought, “Man… I wish I’d spent a little more time on myself.” I wish I’d gotten a couple more takes, a couple more options. Ben Affleck: I felt the same way.

Tom Holland admitted on live TV that he DM’d Erling Haaland and got zero response, not even an excuse. Jimmy Fallon: Now tell us the truth. Did you DM Erling Haaland? Tom Holland: Yes. [Laughter] Tom Holland: Yes, and I’ll tell you what. That is exactly the type of humbling experience that is important for actors. Jimmy Fallon: Yeah. Tom Holland: You know, you’re like, “I’ll text him, I’ll take him to dinner.” Not even a response. [Laughter] Jimmy Fallon: Not an excuse, not “I’m busy tonight. I’m playing football.” Nada. Jimmy Fallon: Nothing. Where were you, and why did you decide to do that? Tom Holland: I was at Monaco. I was watching Lewis race, and I saw him. He was like a hospitality suite across from me, and I just thought I’d shoot my shot.

We have no retirement savings, only $25,000 in cash, owe $27,000 on our $250,000 home, and $11,000 on our car.” Dave Ramsey: “how can we help?” Caller: “My husband wants to make financial decisions I don’t agree with, and I’m stressed. Threadguy says the EA boycott could set a dangerous precedent for GTA 6 microtransactions "The boycott actually won. EA removed the paid progression options, which, in my opinion, is a massive deal. I don't know if we've really seen something like this before, where a coordinated backlash forced a game publisher to back down on microtransactions." "That's why I think it's important with GTA 6 around the corner. Rockstar makes a ton of money from selling copies of the game, but the real revenue comes from the microtransaction casino. I've spent hundreds of dollars on GTA 5 after buying the game." "If EA has set the precedent that if gamers get angry enough, companies will cut back on microtransactions. What's gonna happen when GTA 6 launches what is basically a casino inside the online game? I'm not sure that's gonna go over well."
