There is nothing wrong with saying the US and Israel don’t have identical interests—that statement is true, and nobody I know denies it.
But it’s also nonsense. What is the statement in response to? What are these two supposedly different interests? How are interests being defined?
Is it in the US interest to sign an MOU that hands Lebanon’s sovereignty to Iran and prevents Israel—which, like Lebanon, is not party to the deal—from striking back at Hezbollah, Iran’s proxy? What does the US get from allowing Iran to get between its two enemies this way, rather than using Israel as “bad cop” in a negotiation? It is definitely not in the Israeli interest—but it’s not in America’s, either.
You’ll notice that when people say “the US and Israel don’t have identical interests,” the goal is to STOP talking specifics about the MOU, and instead to make this demagogic false choice between “Israel wants massive forever war” and “America wants a deal.”
(Believe me, Israel would have no problem if the US said “we’re done, it’s all yours,” and allowed Israel to keep going. It did not do that—and the Israelis are rightfully upset at the result.)

The second someone says America and Israel may not have identical interests at every moment, you immediately frame them as traitors, “woke right,” anti-Trump, or secretly anti-Israel. That is the exact moral blackmail people are talking about. You say “America First,” but the moment an American VP mildly rebukes Israel or prioritizes American political stability, parts of the pro-Israel right melt down and demand ideological conformity. That contradiction is becoming impossible to hide.
