Since @UEDCLTD took over power distribution from @UmemeLtd, Ugandans have experienced rampant and unpredictable power outages. This has exposed serious gaps in local capacity to manage electricity distribution effectively. Yaka supply now feels like an emergency response rather than a reliable service. These blackouts are not just an inconvenience, they have real security consequences. In many parts of the country, criminal activity increases whenever power goes off: homes are broken into, businesses are vandalized, and communities are left vulnerable in darkness. Interestingly, regions like West Nile seem more stable, raising questions about uneven service delivery. Electricity is critical national infrastructure. Persistent outages should concern not only UEDCL and regulators, but also security agencies. Power instability creates conditions that criminals exploit and undermines public safety and economic activity. National ownership should mean better service and accountability, not declining reliability. UEDCL must urgently improve operations, and government oversight and security organs should take keen interest before power outages become a wider national security risk. @KagutaMuseveni @mkainerugaba @MODVA_UPDF @PoliceUg @Tom_Magambo

Fellow Ugandans, Kenyans and all Africans. It is with alot of sadness that I, today, the 15th of October, 2025, received the news of the death of Rt. Hon. Raila Amolo Odinga, former Prime Minister of Kenya. Rt. Hon Odinga has not been just a career politician. He has been a freedom fighter, in the tradition of his late father, Jaramogi Odinga, the 1st Vice-President of Kenya. Ideologically speaking, they have been with the patriotic and Pan-Africanist orientation. I have shared ideas with both of them. Their sentiments have been for the unity of Kenya, East Africa and Africa, including always supporting the struggles for the realization of our dream for the East African Federation. It is, therefore, unfortunate that he has left at this moment. It is important for the young People to fill the void left by such historical fighters for Africa’s future. I extend condolences to H.E Ruto, the People of Kenya and for Raila’s family. May his soul rest in eternal peace. Signed: Yoweri K. Museveni President and Chairman of the NRM.

I wish to salute the founding fathers of the Non-Aligned Movement who gave us a solid start in the fight against the influence of hegemony that emerged in the 1940s. Indeed, this failed approach to shared global prosperity was challenged in history (Catholicism in Europe, Metternich in Austria-Hungary, not to mention those who tried and succeeded temporarily in colonising us only for it to end badly for them). Looking at the turnout and momentum under the theme of “Deepening Cooperation for Shared Global Prosperity”, I feel strongly, as a third-generation anti-colonial fighter from Africa, that we may be the hope of the world.

Uganda hosts the 20th NAFISAT Supervisory Board Meeting The Director General of the Uganda Civil Aviation Authority (UCAA), Mr. Fred K. Bamwesigye, this morning, opened the 20th NAFISAT Supervisory Board Meeting, taking place from 14th to 17th October 2025 at Speke Resort Munyonyo in Kampala. The meeting, organized by UCAA in collaboration with Air Traffic Navigation Services (ATNS) and the International Civil Aviation Organization – Eastern and Southern Africa (ICAO-ESAF), has brought together representatives from 14 NAFISAT States, along with officials from ATNS, IATA, and the ICAO ESAF Office. In his opening remarks, UCAA Director General, Mr. Fred K. Bamwesigye, expressed how pleased Uganda was to host the NAFISAT Maintenance and Management Centre at Entebbe International Airport, describing it as “a hub that ensures operational integrity and technical coordination for the entire region.” He hailed NAFISAT as “a true success story, proof of what African States and institutions can achieve when we work together towards a common goal.” Echoing this, ICAO’s representative, Mr. Harvey Gabriel Lekamisy noted that “NAFISAT was designed to support Aeronautical Fixed Telecommunication Network (AFTN), ATS/DS, and ATN services. Built on VSAT (Very Small Aperture Terminal) technology, it provides robust communication links in areas with limited terrestrial infrastructure while seamlessly integrating with networks like the Southern African Development Community Very Small Aperture Terminal (SADC VSAT) and the African Indian Ocean Satellite Network (AFISNET) to strengthen continental connectivity.” Over the next two days, discussions will focus on strengthening interoperability, enhancing infrastructure, and aligning regional systems with ICAO’s Global Air Navigation Plan and Aviation System Block Upgrades (ASBUs). Mr. Bamwesigye further stressed the importance of capacity building, innovation, and inclusivity, ensuring that all States, regardless of size or resources, benefit from the progress being made. The 20th NAFISAT Supervisory Board Meeting marks more than just a review of technical systems. It is a reaffirmation of Africa’s collective vision: building safer, smarter, and more connected skies for the continent and the world. @JoanKTushabe @FredBamwesigye

Koboko has made great progress. Under our PDM, the district has received Shs18.2 billion, supporting over 18,000 households to join the money economy. On Economic and Social Infrastructure, access to safe water has now reached 79% of villages, and I am glad to note that the electricity, as you can see, has arrived, powering homes, schools, and businesses. In education, there are now 59 Government primary schools, 6 Government secondary schools, and 2 new Seed Schools under construction to ensure every sub-county has one.

Our next priority, which we have already begun working on, is reducing household poverty. So far, UGX 14 billion has been disbursed to Madi-Okollo under the PDM scheme. For areas near water, like Madi Okollo, the NRM has exciting plans centred around fish farming, which is a valuable resource. Awadifor.
