Karnataka is bringing the Rohith Vemula Act against caste/religion-based discrimination in higher education, specifically for SC, ST, OBC, and minority students. As per Indian Express, the offence under it will be cognizable, so police can register FIR and arrest without a warrant. The affected student needn’t provide proof to file an FIR. It will also be non-bailable, so bail isn’t automatic; you must seek it from the court after arrest. There are no safeguards against misuse. What if a student sees not being passed (due to poor performance) as discrimination and files an FIR? What if a student reports personal enmity as religion-based discrimination? And since colleges risk losing govt grants if they are seen as the part of discrimination, they too will blindly side with the complainants. A more balanced approach would be: first, an internal anti-discrimination cell conducts an enquiry and refers genuine cases to the police; next, a quick, time-bound preliminary police inquiry by police before any FIR or arrest; and finally, punishment if the complaint is proven false. But aisa nahi hoga because desh logic se nahi, populism se chalta hai. Soon, the Rohith Vemula Act will come to other Congress-ruled states too. All the best.

ओडिशा में इंसाफ़ के लिए लड़ती एक बेटी की मौत, सीधे-सीधे BJP के सिस्टम द्वारा की गई हत्या है। उस बहादुर छात्रा ने यौन शोषण के ख़िलाफ़ आवाज़ उठाई - लेकिन न्याय देने के बजाय, उसे धमकाया गया, प्रताड़ित किया गया, बार-बार अपमानित किया गया। जिन्हें उसकी रक्षा करनी थी, वही उसे तोड़ते रहे। हर बार की तरह BJP का सिस्टम आरोपियों को बचाता रहा - और एक मासूम बेटी को खुद को आग लगाने पर मजबूर कर दिया। ये आत्महत्या नहीं, सिस्टम द्वारा संगठित हत्या है। मोदी जी, ओडिशा हो या मणिपुर - देश की बेटियां जल रही हैं, टूट रही हैं, दम तोड़ रही हैं। और आप? खामोश बने बैठे हैं। देश को आपकी चुप्पी नहीं, जवाब चाहिए। भारत की बेटियों को सुरक्षा और इंसाफ़ चाहिए।

ଏମ୍ସରେ ଚିକିତ୍ସିତ ହେଉଥିବା ବାଲେଶ୍ୱର ଏଫଏମ କଲେଜ ପୀଡ଼ିତା ଛାତ୍ରୀଙ୍କ ଦେହାନ୍ତ ବିଷୟରେ ଜାଣି ମୁଁ ଦୁଃଖିତ ଓ ମର୍ମାହତ। ଏପରି ସମୟକୁ ସାମ୍ନା କରିବା ପାଇଁ ମହାପ୍ରଭୁ ପରିବାର ଲୋକଙ୍କୁ ଅସୀମ ଧୈର୍ଯ୍ୟ ଦିଅନ୍ତୁ। ମନକୁ ଏହା ଅଧିକ ବିଚଳିତ କରୁଛି ଯେ, କିପରି ଗୋଟେ ବିଫଳ ବ୍ୟବସ୍ଥା ଜଣଙ୍କ ଜୀବନ ନେଇଯାଇପାରେ। ସବୁଠୁ କଷ୍ଟଦାୟକ ହେଉଛି, ଏହା କୌଣସି ଦୁର୍ଘଟଣା ନୁହେଁ, ବରଂ ଏପରି ଏକ ବ୍ୟବସ୍ଥାର ଫଳ; ଯାହା ସାହାଯ୍ୟ କରିବା ବଦଳରେ ଚୁପ୍ ରହିଲା। ନ୍ୟାୟ ପାଇବାକୁ ସଂଗ୍ରାମ କରି କରି ଶେଷରେ ଝିଅଟି ଆଖି ବୁଜିଦେଲା। ସେ ଅତି ସାହସିକତାର ସହ ତା' ସହିତ ଘଟିଥିବା ଯୌନ ନିର୍ଯାତନା ବିଷୟରେ କଲେଜ ଅଧ୍ୟକ୍ଷଙ୍କୁ ଚିଠି ଲେଖି ଅବଗତ କରିଥିଲା। କଲେଜ ପଦାଧିକାରୀଙ୍କ ଦ୍ଵାରା ଅଣଦେଖା ହେବା ପରେ ସେ ଅଟକି ଯାଇ ନଥିଲା। ନ୍ୟାୟ ପାଇବାକୁ ସେ ଉଚ୍ଚଶିକ୍ଷା ମନ୍ତ୍ରୀ, ମୁଖ୍ୟମନ୍ତ୍ରୀଙ୍କ କାର୍ଯ୍ୟାଳୟ ଓ ଜଣେ କେନ୍ଦ୍ରମନ୍ତ୍ରୀଙ୍କୁ ଜଣାଇଥିଲା। ଏପରି କି ବାଲେଶ୍ୱର ସାଂସଦଙ୍କୁ ମଧ୍ୟ ବ୍ୟକ୍ତିଗତ ଭାବେ ଭେଟି ନିଜ ଦୁଃଖ ବିଷୟରେ କହିଥିଲା। ଜଣେ କେହି ବି ଯଦି ଉତ୍ତରଦାୟିତ୍ୱ ନେଇ ବ୍ୟକ୍ତିଗତ ଭାବେ ଏଥିରେ ହସ୍ତକ୍ଷେପ କରିଥାନ୍ତେ, ତେବେ ହୁଏତ ଝିଅଟିର ଜୀବନ ବଞ୍ଚିଯାଇଥାନ୍ତା। ସେ କେବଳ ଶାରୀରିକ ଆଘାତ ପାଇ ପ୍ରାଣ ହରାଇ ନାହିଁ, ବରଂ ରାଜ୍ୟ ସରକାରଙ୍କ ଅଣଦେଖା ପାଇଁ; ଯାହା ତାଙ୍କୁ ନିଜ ସଂଗ୍ରାମରେ ଏକାକି ଛାଡ଼ି ଦେଇଥିଲା। ପୁରା ଘଟଣାକ୍ରମରୁ ଜଣାପଡ଼ୁଛି, ଏହା ଆନୁଷ୍ଠାନିକ ବିଶ୍ୱାସଘାତକତାରୁ କିଛି କମ୍ ନୁହେଁ; ଯାହା ଏକ ଯୋଜନାବଦ୍ଧ ଅନ୍ୟାୟ। ମୁଁ ପୁଣିଥରେ ମାନ୍ୟବର ରାଜ୍ୟପାଳ (@GovernorOdisha)ଙ୍କୁ ଅନୁରୋଧ କରୁଛି, ସେ ଏହା ସୁନିଶ୍ଚିତ କରୁନ୍ତୁ ଯେ, ନା କେବଳ କଲେଜ କର୍ତ୍ତୃପକ୍ଷ ବରଂ କ୍ଷମତାରେ ଥିବା ବ୍ୟକ୍ତିମାନେ ମଧ୍ୟ ଉତ୍ତରଦାୟୀ ହୁଅନ୍ତୁ; ଯେଉଁମାନେ ପୀଡ଼ିତାଙ୍କ ଆକୁଳ ଗୁହାରି ପରେ ବି କୌଣସି କାର୍ଯ୍ୟାନୁଷ୍ଠାନ ଗ୍ରହଣ କଲେ ନାହିଁ। ପୀଡ଼ିତାଙ୍କ ଅମର ଆତ୍ମାର ସଦଗତି ହେଉ। ପ୍ରଭୁ ଜଗନ୍ନାଥଙ୍କ ନିକଟରେ ମୁଁ ପୁଣିଥରେ ପ୍ରାର୍ଥନା କରୁଛି, ଏହି ଦାରୁଣ ଦୁଃଖକୁ ସାମ୍ନା କରିବା ପାଇଁ ସେ ପରିବାର ସଦସ୍ୟମାନଙ୍କୁ ଶକ୍ତି ଏବଂ ସାହସ ଦିଅନ୍ତୁ। ଓଁ ଶାନ୍ତି।
