⚡️ | Tomorrow, energy bills will fall by 6.6%, but that temporarily masks the reality of a 32.8% hike from July. Tomorrow, 1st April 2026, UK domestic energy bills will fall by 6.6%, saving the average home £116 per year. However, due to the ongoing conflict in the Middle East, the latest forecasts suggest energy bills will increase by 17.6% from 1st July 2026, with electricity prices rising by 9.3% and gas prices rising by 32.8%. That projection will put the average energy bill at £1,929.34. The highest level since July 2023. What this means in reality: Electricity +9.3% from £0.247 to £0.270 per kWh Gas +32.8% from £0.057 to £0.076 per kWh With little to choose from, consumers are advised to consider a "tracker" tariff to secure the very lowest price for the next 3 months, e.g. @eonenergyuk 'Next Pledge', which undercuts the 'Energy Price Cap' by £100.

@Specialized_Cb Look, we hope you're right. But let's face it, there is a very, very long way to go for China, and the World as a whole, to reach Net Zero.

The future is electric. We need to burn less stuff. Last night on @itvpeston, Greg broke down why the countries doubling down on electrification aren't just cleaner - they're building the economies that will leave fossil fuel nations behind. "The economies going back to fossil fuels are gonna end up looking like middle income countries." @g__j We're not waiting to find out which side of history we land on.

This Labour government is fighting people's corner. We're cutting energy bills. We're calling out price gouging. And just now the Prime Minister has set out further support for those who use heating oil. Affordability is the number one issue, and we're determined to act.

When you say "end the use of fossil fuels", can you expand on how we do that? Fossil fuels account for about 30% of our electricity generation. Wind + Solar around 35% and the rest is Imports, Biomass (burning trees) and Nuclear. However, the real challenge with this suggestion is that fossil fuels account for +73% of our total energy consumption with Oil at 38.9% and Gas at 32.3%. Coal then adds a further 2%.

What we must do immediately: 1) End the use of fossil fuels 2) Build massive amounts of solar & wind 3) Decarbonize & Electrify 5) Scale solutions for high-emission sectors (air travel, animal farming, cement) 6) Stop cutting down forests buff.ly/3r2I3Ee

Short answer: geography. Qatar, Bahrain, Kuwait and the UAE are all on the East Coast, as are the majority of Saudi Arabia's largest oil fields. To transport this to the West Coast, you'd need +1,300kms of pipes, and/or an army of lorries, constantly travelling across incredibly arid land. There is a pipeline carrying some Saudi oil, but it's very expensive to build and maintain, and its capacity is insufficient to meet exports via the Strait of Hormuz.

This is probably a stupid question but can someone explain it to me like I’m 5. If Iran blocks off the Persian Gulf/Strait of Hormuz, why can’t countries must move their oil through The Red Sea/Gulf of Aden?

Did the Iran conflict just derail @UKLabour's plans to reduce energy bills by £300? Just last week, when @ofgem announced the latest 'Energy Price Cap' to take effect from 1st April 2026, our live tracker put Labour ahead of target by £78.10 on the average UK energy bill, achieving an equivalent saving of £153.10 on 2024 bills. Now, with wholesale gas prices soaring, the latest industry predictions suggest the 'Energy Price Cap' could jump to £1,801 from 1st July 2026. In "real terms", that would put bills back to £1,728 in 2024 money, completely wiping out all the progress made to date. The current assessment window for the 'Energy Price Cap' runs until 18th May 2026, so let's hope wholesale gas prices fall in the coming weeks. Link: theenergyshop.com/cheaper-energy…

@LinusEkenstam Is it? Coal is still almost 60% in relative terms. But, more importantly, growing in absolute terms.

You need to understand one thing, and one thing only. A nations ability to generate Electricity is the most fundamental and important metric to track to understand their dominance. China is accelerating away from fossil fuels at an unprecedented rate. Leaving US & EU behind

@LoftusSteve Seismically similar, but the key difference is: No chemicals. No fossil fuel extraction. No methane leaks. Long-term, reliable energy source (decades, not years).
