A young person from Antigua asked me during the 1st Caribbean–European Parliamentary Assembly Youth Forum about innovative ways small island states can finance climate action. One exciting example is Debt-for-Climate Swaps.

The interaction with environmental students from Guadeloupe visiting Barbados was truly special. It left me feeling inspired and hopeful different islands, one climate justice conversation… and yes, I even learned how to pronounce it in French 😂🇫🇷

I got a call saying environmental students from Guadeloupe were in Barbadosfor a field trip and wanted to connect and I was beyond amazed. What made it even more special was our conversation on climate justice… and yes, I learned how to pronounce “climate justice” in French 💕

Everyday I wonder why our regional and international justice bodies appear silent or inactive as geopolitical pressure increases on Venezuela! #doyourjob #stopstayingsilent

These flooding videos are very concerning… this is not even a tropical wave or anything and so much water is out there can’t imagine a serious weather system impacting us.

Climate change isn’t a debate it’s our daily reality. From stronger hurricanes to rising costs and loss, the Caribbean is on the frontlines. In my latest column, I break down why we can’t afford complacency and why urgent, people-centred action is the only path forward.

The next generation must inherit not the trauma of disasters, but the wisdom to prevent them. As we mark #WTAD2025 this week, Ashley reminds us that empowering children and young people with knowledge, leadership, and resilience is essential to preventing future disasters.

I'm gravely concerned as Hurricane Melissa unleashes widespread devastation across the Caribbean. I stand in solidarity with the Governments & people affected & convey my heartfelt condolences to the families of those who have lost their lives. The @UN working is hand in hand with authorities & humanitarian partners across the region to assist those impacted & prepare in areas that may yet face the storm’s impact.
