@SimpleSCOTUS Roberts (whispering to state legislators): "target democrats, not racial minorities. Like I said in my Rucho v. Common Cause opinion, just make it plausible that the gerrymander was driven by partisan rather than racial demographics and *poof* the issue becomes nonjusticiable."

@_Credible_Hulk @ignor3th1s @Rshacksalt @cafreiman A kia is not a substitute for a Lambo. They are similar in the way that a wealth-signalling purse and a plastic grocery bag are both bags, but if someone had the former and lost it, they wouldn't substitute in the plastic bag.

If you’re unclear on why expanding the supply of expensive housing is good even for those who can’t afford it, consider the following question: if we destroyed all luxury cars, would the price of a Kia go up or down?

Luxury Apartments Are Bringing Rent Down in Some Big Cities “New building openings are bringing rents down as wealthy tenants trade up, forcing landlords to drop prices for older apartments.” @business

@paulg Uhh, I grew up 3 blocks outside of Detroit in an affluent suburb far downstream of economic growth, and you can see from the racial dot map how not tolerant GP is. So, how much economic growth is needed to get people to be tolerant?

There is something deeply wrong with Twitter. It has always been rough here, but in the past year it has become an even worse kind of nasty. Do you think maybe it's time to try to turn things around, Elon?

Yesterday I became a father. I shared a photo of my newborn daughter, and many of you sent beautiful messages. Thank you. But I’ve had to delete it. The vile racism and hate directed at an innocent soul less than a day old was beyond depraved.

@EdKrassen @CrimsonPKing I mean, he knows Trump and Epstein were super tight for decades, so there's a pedophile network.

BOMBSHELL! Yesterday, FBI Director Kash Patel told the Senate that there is "no credible evidence that Jeffrey Epstein trafficked women to other people." Today he just claimed that Epstein had a "pedophile network." How can both of these statements be true?

@paulg Wow. I don't know what my life would have been like if I didn't go to college (physics + mech eng) and grad school (CS), but odds are it would have been worse. Are there really that many people regretting choosing to go to college?

@grok @dwpks1965 @TiffanyFong_ Hey @dwpks1965, do you have to commute by car? If so, you're 4x as likely to die a violent death than if you were on public transit, although there probably won't be an black people in your car. If you choose the car, it's not to avoid suffering violent harm.

@_facts_matter @dwpks1965 @TiffanyFong_ Based on 2023-2024 data (latest available in 2025), public transit is safer per passenger mile: buses ~0.11 deaths per 100M miles, trains ~0.43, vs. driving ~1.26. Raw counts show far more driving fatalities (~43k/year) due to greater miles traveled by car.

@dwpks1965 @TiffanyFong_ @grok is it safer to commute via public transit options or by driving? Does it differ by vehicle mile traveled vs raw counts?

@derrico_henrio Great picture engagement bait. Lots of violent right-wing morons desperately want a justification to commit rampant acts of violence against the hordes of macho liberals that live in their imaginations. You detected and fed that desire; enjoy your $6 reward.

In the last few years we've seen: - The plot to kidnap Gretchen Whitmer - The Storming of the Capitol and pipe bombs left at the RNC and DNC - The break-in to kidnap Nancy Pelosi and the brutal on Paul Pelosi - Multiple assassination attempts against Trump - The assassination of Minnesota House Speaker Melissa Hortman and her husband and the shooting of on State Senator John Hoffman and his wife - Luigi Mangione's assassination of Brian Thompson - The assassination of Charlie Kirk Political violence is contagious. It is spreading. It is not confined to one side or belief system. It should terrify us all. The foundation of a free society is the ability to participate in it without fear of violence. Political violence is always an attack against us all. You have to be so blind not to see that.

@WBPetersen @RepRobertGarcia The problem is that Trump was best friends with a pedophile who sex trafficked kids to Trump and people just like Trump. According to Trump, they had a falling out over Epstein poaching a 16 year old that worked in Trump's spa. Sorry Gadsden flag, pedophiles are evil.

@mtracey Yeah, it's just Trump sending a smutty drawing and poem about the secrets he shares with his very close friend, the famous child sex trafficking pedophile Jeffrey Epstein. Trump is also a pedophile. He won't release info because it incriminates him. You shouldn't support pedos.

the thing is that safety on public transit is almost entirely a perceived problem largely fabricated by social media vibes and media coverage. to a certain extent perception is reality (which is why i support measures like fare gates and more transit security) but there's an inherent problem where people will *always* feel like crime is bad no matter how bad it actually is. i'd compare it to the "border crisis" which doesn't affect any Americans in any material sense but people freak out about it regardless. when right wingers pounce on viral crime stories to stoke racism i don't think the correct response from libs is to say "don't agree with the racism but they've got a point about crime" especially when they're using crime as a pretense to deploy the military on American cities.
