@anthonyLmoody Acts 2:38-39 comes to mind. “For you and your children” I would argue it’s much harder to find proof that baptism is reserved for only consenting persons.

@_ryanthe__ I’m genuinely curious to hear from your perspective. Without using seminary language and with scriptural references where in the Bible would you point someone to see clearly that infant baptism is biblical? Plain biblical text, nothing that could be considered ambiguous.

Griffin, with absolutely all due respect, this is patently wrong. There is ONE baptism for the forgiveness of sins and whether this person likes it or not, believes it or not, it was efficacious when done in infancy. Baptizing again shows unbelief in the power of God in baptism
Griffin Gulledge@griffingulledge

On Easter Sunday, I am baptizing someone who “grew up Catholic.” Wanna know why? Because he was lost and didn’t believe the gospel. He had never been taught it. Now, he knows that Christ alone has justified him before God. And we’re gonna celebrate it! Many similar stories.

@CalebwNewsom Long enough. But even when i was an ignorant non denom/baptiscostal mish mash I intrinsically knew that if Baptism is a command of God then it actually does something and that thing only needs done once.

@griffingulledge I know this. I hope you hear me as a fellow Protestant. Nowhere is re-baptism made allowance for in Holy Scripture nor in the early church. I speak as one who has seen firsthand “baptism” treated as a feel-good, self-help “act” rather than the Grace of God once for all given.

@ryanvisconti Oh i certainly agree that experiencing God can be emotional. I get emotional taking the body and blood of Christ in the Eucharist. What i left was a seeking after an emotional experience that could be labeled as a move of the HS verses an actual encounter with the living God

If you left “emotionalism” you should have sought a genuine encounter with the Holy Spirit of God. Emotion is a vital component of the human soul. Not feeling emotion in worship services is a sign of dry and dead religion. The MOST historic version of Christianity was Pentecostal. 🔥 Check out Acts.

I’ve been telling people this wasn’t a real thing for years. Nice to see the stats. Them: 😲 “All the young men are becoming Catholic or Orthodox!” Me: 🫤 “No, they’re not.” I don’t know one person IRL who went from Spirit-filled Christianity to dry religion.
Ryan Burge 📊@ryanburge

Empirically speaking: The movement from Catholic --> Protestant is way larger than the opposite direction. In the 1970s: 8% of Catholics became Protestants 3% of Protestants became Catholic. In the 2020s: 12% of Catholics -> Protestants 3% of Protestants -> Catholic

@brownmp I generally agree with your points except for point 2a. I think anyone non/denom or non/denom adjacent should join a historic and continuing branch of the church. (Imo Anglican, Lutheran, Catholic, or Orthodox)

I guess this is a good thing. But two thoughts: 1) If the difference between LCMS and Arminians is only 8 percentage points, the specificity of the quiz isn't that great. (My guess is that most divergence is on the "certainty" and "core to tertiary" responses, not the actual doctrines. The LCMS as an institution is more sure of a lot of things that I imagine most people would answer.) 2) The idea behind the quiz is very American, but is 100% contrary to what most people in most times and places would think. The direction is not you state what you believe and then find a place that agrees with you. The church is a forming institution. You may have disagreements with it. They may last lifelong. But the assumption is that the church is right, and your disagreements are worked out in the living of the Christian life. 2a) This is one of the reasons I tend to spiritually recommend staying in the tradition that you were raised in, or in which you came to faith. Conversion to another should only come after serious reflection. And afterward a healthy respect for the church as a teaching institution.

Okay, so I’m going to guess that this test doesn’t know Martin Luther or CS Lewis very well.

@ViaMediaVoice @NashotahHouse I don’t know your financial situation, Im in a very similar situation. Look into the matching grant they have. They will match up to 30% of tuition paid by an organization such as a church or diocese. Thats 60% of your tuition covered right there. Makes it a lot more feasible.

@MatthewDePra @CharlesTingler My brother, future sins are not forgiven at the moment of justification. Continual repentance is needed and good works accompany repentance. Read Hebrews 6.

My friend, there is no other justification other than initial justification. Justified means justified. Once we have saving faith in Christ, He completely covers us for all of our past, present, and future sins. We can rest in the full assurance He gives us, and walk in the good works now that we are saved. We get to live out a faithful and fruitful life in Him now - that's what Eph 2:10 is teaching. We get the freedom from the bondage of sin and freedom to walk in the Spirit. 1 John 5:11-12 And this is the testimony, that God gave us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life.

The Catholic priest at the church I had been attending just emailed me. He said he is still willing to work with me toward full communion. He has found a sponsor for me named Tom, and he wants to see consistency from me before moving forward. The original plan was for the Easter Vigil, but with less than two weeks left, that is no longer realistic. He now wants to aim for Pentecost Sunday as the target date for me to enter full communion and receive the sacraments. This message came out of the blue, and I am praying seriously about whether I truly want to do this.

@JGODYT Aesthetics and authentic looking maps do not have to be slaves to functionality and gameplay. Just because it’s not necessary in one or two game modes does not mean it doesn’t add a dimension of gameplay to game mode such as team death match or kill confirmed

Being an Anglican on social media and enduring constant strawmanning with patience is sufficiently penitential, I reckon.
