Hegseth, a former Fox News host, also commented on the corporate ownership of CNN because he was upset with the outlet's reporting on the war. “More fake news from CNN -- reports that the Trump administration underestimated the Iran war's impact on the Strait of Hormuz. Patently ridiculous, of course. For decades, Iran has threatened shipping in the Strait of Hormuz. This is always what they do, hold the strait hostage. CNN doesn’t think we thought of that. It's a fundamentally unserious report. The sooner David Ellison takes over that network, the better," he said. It's not usual that a Defense Secretary weighs in on a news channel merger, much less during wartime.

U.S. Central Command is aware of the loss of a U.S. KC-135 refueling aircraft. The incident occurred in friendly airspace during Operation Epic Fury, and rescue efforts are ongoing. Two aircraft were involved in the incident. One of the aircraft went down in western Iraq, and the second landed safely. This was not due to hostile fire or friendly fire. When I first arrived in DC (my first go-around) nearly a decade ago @elinashirazi and I lived with her parents in Virginia. They made a home there after fleeing during the Iranian Revolution. I was a stranger to her parents, but they took every step possible to ensure their house felt like my home. We drank rose water tea, giggled checking our horoscopes and gossiped over boys. Her beautiful mom packed my lunch each day. Today I am so deeply proud of the journalist she's become and can't help but to think of how awestruck our fresh out of college selves would be watching her now.
