@raisethablack @ryanburge Wouldn't all the Pakistanis and Indians take over the US if Canada became the 51st state? PS the mayor of your biggest city, the wife of the VP, the head of the FBI, the former VP and presidential candidate, and the DNI are all Indian descent.

I need to point something out: Catholics movement toward the GOP is probably the biggest advantage they have on election day now compared to 2008. The only other group that moved further to the right are "nothing in particulars" Feuding w/the Pope is an interesting choice.

@ryanburge Catholics moved towards this guy? Maybe they shouldn't vote for the womanizing rapists who don't believe in anything next time. youtu.be/ERUngQUCsyE?si…

@eenuttings @dwaldenwrites 200-300 at a full 6-9 hours of prep is reasonable. I got the vibe from the original post that that would be OK for a single class/2 to 3 hours of prep, which strikes me as excessive.

I am not privy to my students’ lives, but I am privy to the fact that the norm for university-level work is 2–3 hours of preparation per hour of class. 200–300 pages of literary fiction per 3-hour class week seems to fit that metric very well.
nur@nourician

200-300 pages a week is fucking delusional. people have jobs and responsibilities – their time is less free than ever!!! a lot of the shit they assign as readings in the humanities is also total garbage lmfao, maybe 30-40% is worth reading

I have made this bold prediction before on Spaces and will put it out here today: If things end on a good note between Iran-US in the Islamabad Talks, you may hear that an Iranian delegation may head to the White House in the near future. If this happens then where will all those Iranophiles go who said Iran will never negotiate because “Iran is winning!” and that Iran is fighting some grand jihad to liberate Palestine? 🤡

My significant fear about this sudden ceasefire is the same fear I had about past ceasefires, that this will be another opportunity for deception, to regroup, to reclaim the ladder of escalation, and for surrounding circumstances to worsen. I hope to be proven wrong.

@afro_hamza The role of downward imagination as discussed by OP is clearly traceable to Proclus's views on imagination (via his work on mathematics). Both his followers and critics like you are unfair when presenting him as a lone figure disconnected from what preceded him.

Ibn Arabi wasn't a classical scholar and shouldnt be called that, he doesn't qualify, the Classical period (8th to 11th century ) was defined by textual rigor and debate. Ibn ʿArabī’s methodology was explicitly anti-bookish, using visionary imagination to bypass the intellect. He represents a move away from the Classical tradition, not a continuation of it

Classical Islamic scholars emphasised on the power of imagination to a great degree. Ibn Arabi regarded imagination as "the vastest of Presences (hadarat).” The precondition for the acceptance of prayer is belief, “He is as you think He is” (Hadith). To live as if it’s yours.

Seems like the west understimates how shocking the killing of 200 schoolgirls was to Iranians, the football team who a few years ago refused to sing the anthem came out with schoolbags as a tribute, every local interviewed mentions it

It’s so obvious at this point that the priority of US Special Forces on the evening of April 4 wasn’t to rescue the second American aviator, but to source and steal enriched uranium. It’s not an accident that the day before Hegseth dismissed some of his most seasoned generals.
