@WmWeedon It probably depends on how often they have adoration of the blessed Sacrament as the Pange Lingua/Tantum Ergo is sung during the benediction traditionally. I will note that this isn’t the original translation of the Pange Lingua.

By taking either approach, you’re not saying the Word of God is wrong. You can hold either opinion and hold scripture is inerrant

@ion_eyes It IS the litmus test. Either you believe God and his Word on when he created things, or you don't and you accept man and their 'science'.

I'm an old-earth creationist. I don't condemn others who disagree. And if I die, hopefully go to heaven, and God tells me I was wrong and the earth is only 6000-ish years old, then I will praise God. My issue is when people make young earth creationism *the* ultimate litmus test for whether you're a Christian or not. Pastor Wolfmueller says LCMS ought to be young earth creationist, and says, "this is probably one of the requirements to be a Christian." So if being an adherent of OEC makes me a heretic among LCMS, so be it. I'm sure some other Lutheran body somewhere or Catholics would be happy to have me. For those who are afraid of the idea of an old earth: 1. It doesn't automatically require believing in macro evolution 2. It isn't because we don't want to believe the Bible 3. There have been multiple times where science has helped us to inform our understanding of Scripture. Examples of ancient understanding of Scripture most Christians don't believe today are flat earth and geocentrism 4. There is significant evidence for an old universe: the fossil record, radiometric dating, starlight from distant solar systems and galaxies, etc. Come to your own conclusions, but simply holding to OEC doesn't require denying any solid tenet of the faith. Yes, I know I'm a layman and my opinion isn't worth a hill of beans. But I just get frustrated with people (especially clergy) who want to bind people's consciences to only one particular model of the universe that Scripture doesn't plainly set forward. youtu.be/XMnYbP3deYQ?si…

@WmWeedon @ion_eyes They’re likely former Catholics for a reason (I.e. they weren’t catechized properly and therefore not fully understanding what Catholicism teaches). Maybe if they had better knowledge of Scripture they would have stayed? I know that’s my case for returning.

@ion_eyes Have you ever talked to former RCs about the Bible? I have. The general knowledge of Scripture itself is pretty poor among them. I think whereas we emphasize the importance of personal Bible reading, they emphasize devotions such as praying the rosary or eucharistic adoration.

@NCC1673 @farmingandJesus For Catholics, Christ is not killed over and over. He died on the cross once for all. He is outside of time, and in every age, men and women are allowed to enter into the one Sacrifice at Mass, a one-time Sacrifice that has effects that are ongoing for the many through all ages.

It’s strange to me how many said they did do this and became RCC when in the same breath every last one of them will say “where does the Bible say it all has to be in the Bible” or “read the church fathers” This proves my point absolutely. You didn’t read the Bible and become a Roman Catholic. You read what you believe are church fathers as well as selected scriptures you see through a heavily weighted Roman lens and became a Roman Catholic because by your own admission you don’t believe the Bible is the sole authority of theological belief. I just state the facts. If you’re angry please examine the scriptures against what you believe , that’s all. Acts 17:11 Now the Berean Jews were of more noble character than those in Thessalonica, for they received the message with great eagerness and examined the Scriptures every day to see if what Paul said was true. Notice the noble believers always examined the word to see if it was truth. We should all be doing this regardless of what anyone says.
