@josephnollasj So does this guy see the Apostle Paul as a “weak man” then, unqualified to lead the church?

Dude is going to freak out when he learns about the English martyrs, the priests who gave Last Rites on Omaha Beach, the Knights Hospitaller, the French Jesuits who went back to minister in North America - *after* being tortured - only to be martyred, etc

Here’s what a vegan default looks in practice: the meat dish is still available, but the customer has to put a bit more effort into getting it. Assuming the veg dish is tasty and filling, most people will end up eating plant-based. Convenience often overrides taste preferences.

@ProgressDeath @neo_kme Biden in March of 2015 was sitting at a democratic voter favorability of 64%, and the highest it ever got before they officially announced no campaign in Oct 2015 was around 80%, and still lower than Clinton

@ProgressDeath @neo_kme I know you were an 11 year old edgelord during the election so your memory isn’t that accurate, but she was actually quite well liked back then. She never dipped below 70% favorable among dem voters, even after the long, nasty primary battle. On Election Day it was 90%!

@PaulinusOfTrier @DermotQuigley12 When Our Lady originally gave the rosary to Saint Dominic, if she wanted 20 mysteries, she would’ve included 20 mysteries. It’s HER rosary and no one conceived with original sin should ever have altered what she directed from Heaven.

The artificial introduction of the Luminous Mysteries is quite a good illustration of the two mentalities which divide the Church. On the one hand, we have a practice which is connected both to the reciting of 150 psalms and to the vision of St Dominic. It has evolved with the addition of the petition, and following fatima, the common but optional practice of addiing the Fatima prayer. But the basic structure of 150 hail Marys, divided into 15 mysteries divided into a trinity of joyful, sorrowful and glorious which so well reflect the experience of Catholic life remained unchanged for seven centuries. On the other, you have the guys who always think they've got a better idea. So out goes the connection with the psalms, out goes the rosary hallowed by Marian revelation, and in comes a set of no doubt worthy meditations, designed by enthusiasts to make sense of the gap in Jesus' ministry perceived in the original mysteries. Of course the Pope who introduced them beatified the man who thought them up. Of course they are optional. But somehow, one more aspect of the old faith has been pushed out of the doorway, and one more division of the church ushered in.

@Ajl1959xy @ChristopherHale My understanding is that souls in purgatory/heaven/hell live outside of time as we earthly beings understand it, so that question doesn’t really make sense.

@abolishlife @TheWorthyHouse @bronzeagemantis I've been in both. I said combat troops and 1st responders for a reason. Inside the military/fire/ems/police the actual people that do calls and pull triggers skew RW, lefties ride desks and do pog jobs.

Those complaining about this post are confusing agitation by conservative pundits with actual daily violence and civil war conditions which they haven’t either studied or experienced. You shouldn’t wish for that…and also there’s nowhere in western world the right would win rn…
Mr. S.T.A.R.@favelaoverlord

Casual discussion of civil war, political assassinations, street violence, etc. all make me enraged. How immensely privileged we are to live a life free of casual violence, in which life has value. How many would throw that away with no hesitation?

@GudistGrug @TheWorthyHouse @bronzeagemantis Surveys show it’s a 65/35 split in favor of the GOP, and that’s only amongst those who identify with a party. The majority of active duty troops and veterans surveyed identify as independents. Idk why you feel the need to lie about easily verified information

@TheWorthyHouse @bronzeagemantis 90%+ of first responders, combat troops, etc are RW. We are the only ones with xp in places where there is less than 100% state-system control over a situation.

@Arnaldo51820521 @Jaymartins_10 @CatholicArena Many Popes before Francis washed the feet of laymen. Benedict XVI, Pius IX, St. John Paul II famously washed the feet of 12 homeless boys. At least 60 medieval popes washed the feet of laymen in addition to deacons. Francis was the first to wash women’s feet, but not laymen

@kweku_Ishmael @CatholicArena But it’s part of the institution of the priesthood so this is returning to what it means and not confusing it with something that has some good in it but is something different. It would be fine on another day perhaps but this is a particular ritual with a particular meaning.

@LetsTread @JennyENicholson Also, average gator length has grown about three inches. The season is quite short and at most 3% of the population is killed annually. It’s a heavily regulated sport, and violators of the tag system are tracked down and prosecuted very efficiently by the authorities

@LetsTread @JennyENicholson The year before the show aired there were about a million and a half gators in Louisiana. Now, 17 seasons of the show later, there are over 3 million gators. I’m not calling your acquaintance a liar, but I do think they may have been misinformed

One time I saw a reality show about gator hunters, obviously the network had thought they'd find some really eccentric characters and probably replicate duck dynasty. But it turns out all these guys did was go out in a rowboat and shoot a gator in the face with a shotgun

Maybe I'm just ignorant, but despite looking, I've still never found a true example of a word/idea that cannot be translated into English. The English version may take multiple words, or even a sentence. It may lose its poetry. But it can be translated all the same.

Kind of wildly uncertain moment for Democratic Party econ policy making. Will the 2028 Dem presidential candidate run on ... Tax cuts for small businesses? Medicare for all? Antitrust? Something else altogether? I have no idea and don't think anyone does -- feels way more up for grabs than I can remember

All men and women, especially Christians, are called to fix their gaze on those who suffer, on the pain of the lonely, and on those who are emarginated for various reasons, for without them we cannot build a just society. Only together can we build communities of solidarity capable of caring for everyone, in which wellbeing and peace can flourish for the benefit of all. Caring for the humanity of others helps us to live our own lives to the full.
