@Mar46706930 @stackerco Near 0. My experience is that getting Xd is about entirely different things 99% of the time. It's the 1% anomalies that get the attention, but they are anomalies.

The church says “we never hid anything, you just didn’t look hard enough.” Even though the curriculum never taught it. Where would you look? And why would you have ever thought to look beyond the church’s approved curriculum? Why didn’t you as a teenager go to the church library vaults? Why didn’t you examine that one article from 1974 before you were born instead of just believing what the church taught you in 1992 before the Internet was on your home? You’re so stupid just to trust the church. Your fault you didn’t look. We all knew about this, only lazy people like you didn’t know. Is this institutional betrayal like this lady says?

If you regret spending half your life in Mormonism…. You should definitely spend the other half of your life speaking out against Mormonism Then you can dedicate your WHOLE LIFE to Mormonism 😆 It’s a powerful faith so it deserves 100% 😉

@abylund @ThoughtfulSaint I actually disagree. I agree that the trees were symbolic, and that Lehi's vision wasn't literal, but Adam was a real person, and God can't send someone to an unfair world unless they have chosen to do so. This line of logic is like saying Exodus was symbolic but not literal.

Question for non LDS folks. Why would God put a poison tree in the middle of his perfect garden knowing that Adam and Eve would partake? The only way out of this is to say God intended it for some higher purpose. Which implies his initial creation was not perfect but could be improved upon.

Mormon theology is way too expansive and flexible. It’s extremely unattractive.

One funny line from the interview with Allie. She asked if Jesus and Satan were brothers. I responded “Jesus and Satan are brothers in the same way you and Nancy Pelosi are sisters” haha. I went on to explain they are not brothers in a meaningful way but only in the sense they share the same source and origin. She didn’t laugh. (Jonah Barnes gets credit for that line)

@RestoredTruth8 I'm not understanding how this disproves infinite regress. Maybe I don't understand fully what the exact definition of the term "infinite regress" means. Is there a standard definition somewhere? Also, anyone know who coined that term?

@ThoughtfulSaint Not what I expected, though I'm not surprised that a lot of your followers have taken to similar belief on this.

@JasontheLayman 🤦‍♂️ Joseph Smith didn’t come up with fresh ideas. God often in patterns. When you come at the Book of Mormon with presuppositions and an intent to find fault you can create all kinds of things. I dare you to come at the Book of Mormon as a believer.

According to the Book of Mormon, before God chose Abraham, the Lord selected the brother of Jared to bless his seed above all other nations, and He gave his descendants a Promised Land, just like He did with the Israelites! He even revealed Himself as Jesus Christ, 2500 years before He came in the flesh. Poor Abraham only knew Him as El Shaddai and didn't get to watch a movie about what was going to happen on earth throughout it's entire history, like the brother of Jared. The brother of Jared had more faith than any other man, but he remained nameless in this fictional tale. Apparently God can't make up His mind who His chosen people really are! Because Joseph Smith couldn't come up with any fresh ideas about what God is capable of, he repeats this unoriginal story with the family of Lehi, as well.

@LukeFHan @polysophical Somebody needs to do a survey on this and find out what % of people grew up being taught/believing in infinite regress. Would be cool to see the breakdown by generation as well.

I wouldn't say Jonah claiming that "every" prophet and apostle of the restoration has explicitly affirmed infinite regress and that it's believed by the majority of the members of the Church and then immediately backtracking on both those claims is an example of him "absolutely cooking"

@mrmdotorg I also had never even heard the term "infinite regress" until like a year or two ago, and in learning that term I came to know that there are LDS that do not think "infinite regress" was a thing. I grew up in Orem, UT and "infinite regress" was the only thing I was ever taught.

If Mormons were true Christians then they would not: 1)proclaim the Book of Mormon to be true 2)proclaim Joseph Smith was a true prophet 3)teach tithing as a command 4)follow drink restrictions 5)Practice temple rituals 6)Sing praises to Smith 7)follow modern “prophets”
