@Movie_Icon Or hear me out. I mean, what happened to getting a better job? I mean imagine having all that time to put into getting a bachelor's and a master's and then maybe Industry certifications and relevant short courses. Also what about health insurance? Wasn't Eli insured?

@Emeka3345 Not true Lots of MBBBS Grads have master's and doctorates I know some with MBBS and PhD Though those are usually the ones that work in academic medicine Most in pure clinical practice just do residency and fellowship and CME (Continuous medical Education)

@OkorochaLaureen It's not an insult but it's the truth. Imagine claiming you're just as knowledgeable as someone that's dedicated their lives to this. Med school, residency, fellowship, post fellowship. And you'll now be like "I have a BMLSN so yeah you're wrong about this."

@OkorochaLaureen @Greatlyse_ But that doesn't mean you were trained the same way. It's not the same education, you're trained for your role. If you don't agree with a diagnosis you're well within your rights to query the physician and ask why. Plain and simple, they tell you and y'all move on

@Greatlyse_ Without necessary information? Firstly, everybody work is under scrunity. Secondly, I don't know where you work but where I work and what is standard, I have access to every patient medical history/record as a MLSct. It guides my work and work rationale.

@OkorochaLaureen Okay, Why don't other professions stay in their own spheres? There's no shortage of patients and healthcare is team based so why the turf wars? That's what I don't understand If you're a DPT, then focus on therapy naw. If you're MLS, then focus on Lab work now,

@lalala3080 One thing about all these other courses claiming they are medical students I think they do it cause there's no professional pathway for them in Nigeria. Personally sha, if each had their own advancement pathway and work niche we wouldn't be having these turf wars.

Me: Are you a medical student? 🗣️: Yes, I am. Me: Which MB class are you? 🗣️: I am studying Physiology oo, I’m in my final year. My head went blank, I was so speechless.😂😂 At this point, I think I’ll start asking “are you studying Medicine and surgery” instead of “are you a medical student.”

@NurainYelu @joshibza No it means they can't carry out diagnosis Plain and simple I am not spending 7 years in school 3 - 7 years of residency and then 1 - 3 years of fellowship For some pharmacist to do my job. No, no way in hell.

@joshibza Lol all these you say are available in clinical guidelines this is not the olden age of obscure information. If you love Pharmacy so much you can return. Pharmacists are drug experts does not mean that they are not trained in diagnosis.

How many doctors in Nigeria perform an endoscopy before prescribing a PPI for dyspeptic symptoms? Very few, because that is not how evidence-based medicine works. Medicine is not practiced by randomly ordering every gold-standard investigation before offering initial treatment. We use diagnostic algorithms, clinical judgment, risk stratification, and alarm features to guide decisions. A patient with uncomplicated dyspepsia does not automatically need an endoscopy before empirical therapy. Endoscopy is indicated when clinically warranted alarm symptoms, GI bleeding, weight loss, persistent vomiting, anemia, older age with new symptoms, or treatment failure not because someone wants theoretical perfection. Pharmacists play an important role in medication safety, but confusing diagnostic pathways with dispensing responsibilities reflects a poor understanding of clinical medicine. If every prescription required definitive invasive confirmation first, healthcare would collapse. Know the boundaries of your profession. Doctors diagnose and manage using established clinical pathways; pharmacists ensure safe and appropriate dispensing. Both roles matter, but they are not interchangeable.

I studied political science as a minor in the university and this was one of the books that we read and referenced in one of the courses. Initially as young chaps this book infuriated us and we began to blame the west for our woes until we came across another book “How Africa Underdeveloped Africa”. Till date, I have no blames or fight with the Europeans. The time for blaming them is long gone. Now it is our evil leaders who are constantly looting and ravaging the continent. Sometimes I wonder if there’s really a problem with the black race because how can a whole continent have wicked leaders? Only the “white” part of the continent have major developments. Africans, it is your leaders that have ravaged you, not Europeans.

First, keep in mind that there's a limit to how much length can be increased. Well muscles are capable of a great deal of stretch and they can grow in length with almost every "bulking" exercise, in fact, your gyming to gain muscle is dependent on repeated trauma to muscles. Arteries, veins, lymphatics and nerves are not fixed to exactly your height and they too can grow with "adaptive pressure". The problematic amongst them is nerve and yeah, the procedure is not devoid of complications. I forgot to mention that bone grows at the rate of 1 mm/day, that's the rate they usually use. This thing take weeks or months, it's not a 2 day adventure. You can read more about it, just search.

This is not an isolated incident either. Earlier today during postings we saw a patient with a wrist malunion. He had a wrist fracture earlier and went to traditional bone setters but it didn't heal right and he couldn't use the hand properly. It's a thing with Nigerians, why?
David Adeh@adeh_david

Something about this phenomenon really bothers me You're sick but instead of going to a hospital you went to w pharmacy. Why do Nigerians avoid going to the hospital until it is too late, why?

Do not go into academia straight, they pay lecturers shitty salaries these days. Your best bet is going straight into residency, make sure you prioritise the national college. They now offer an MD programme alongside your senior residency. So you graduate both with a fellowship and Doctorate degree. With that you can get a job as a senior lecturer and a consultant in your university of choice. If you know what you're doing, you can become an associate professor 5 years post-fellowship or earlier.
