2 weeks ago I was diagnosed with breast cancer. I have my first surgery this week. I can't have surgery if me or my surgeon have C19. This is where social responsibility fails. I have to rely on others doing the "right thing" so that I can get the treatment I need. Sure, ok 🤞

I am 19 years sober today. This is an important milestone for me, because I have now spent more of my adult life sober than a drinker. Alcoholism is a thief that robs you of life and light. If any of you are struggling with booze, please get some help. My DMs are always open.

@Globalbiosec Australia is one of the few OECD countries without a national COVID registry. Even with the new Australian CDC, there are no plans to create one. Without a registry, we’re flying blind on long COVID, outcomes, and service planning.

The arts sector in Australia is in crisis, and the federal government thinks encouraging more philanthropy is the answer. But donations from the rich won't fill the gap left by chronic government underfunding. @Skyelark0 #auspol

We can't have clean energy because it will destroy the oil industry. We can't have healthcare because it will destroy the health insurance industry. We can't have peace because it will destroy the weapon industry. Capitalism built a system we can't afford to do the right thing.

The Israeli Defense Forces have issued an evacuation order for Beirut’s Jnah area, which includes two major referral hospitals; the Rafik Hariri University Hospital and Al Zahraa Hospital. At this time, no alternative medical facilities are available to receive approximately 450 patients from the two hospitals (including 40 patients in the ICU), rendering their evacuation operationally unfeasible. Both facilities are operating at full capacity, including treating the injured from the strikes of 8 April. This zone also encompasses the @mophleb complex, and hosts five shelters accommodating more than 5000 people. I urge Israel to reverse this order and ensure the protection of all health facilities, health workers, patients and civilians.

@BBoyerMP x.com/i/status/20421… How do you plan to address the "dangerously overcrowded" ED's? Perhaps you would consider reinstating n95 respirators to reduce airborne infection transmission, especially nosocomial transmission. No-one should get sicker from seeking medical care!

This week marks 50 years of Flinders Medical Centre 🎉 Over the past half a century we’ve seen many babies born, lots of new doctors and nurses trained, and thousands of southern suburbs residents cared for. FMC was one of Australia's first fully integrated tertiary teaching hospitals, with patient care, research and university education being rolled into one. I’m looking forward to many more visits to FMC as Health Minister, but here’s a snap from my most recent visit a couple of weeks ago.

It’s truly a strange time when even liberal economists (or journalists really) reckon we should nationalise childcare (we absolutely should - and not just childcare).

And yet @AlboMP and @SenatorWong still refuse to condemn the illegal actions of Israel and the US and continue to enable them through the supply of weapons from Australia. So many innocent civilians paying the price for their complicity, hypocrisy and cowardice.

Israel is doing everything it can to destroy hopes for peace as it launches a criminal wave of bombings on Lebanon overnight. They have killed more than 250 people and injured over 1,000 more. Global sanctions, global action, is needed, now.

I have just spoken with Lebanese President Joseph Aoun and Prime Minister Nawaf Salam. I expressed France’s full solidarity in the face of the indiscriminate strikes carried out by Israel in Lebanon today, which resulted in a very high number of civilian casualties. We condemn these strikes in the strongest possible terms. They pose a direct threat to the sustainability of the ceasefire that has just been reached. Lebanon must be fully covered by it. I reiterated the need to preserve Lebanon’s territorial integrity and France’s determination to support the efforts of the Lebanese authorities to uphold the country’s sovereignty and implement the Hezbollah disarmament plan.
