@TattedIrishGuy @mrddmia The operative question I think Justice Gorsuch asked the ACLU lawyer during oral arguments is likely to frame the opinion differently dealing with the Indian Citizenship Act and what it meant if it were repealed.

'She's pissing off everyone,' said Mike Davis, former chief counsel to the Senate Judiciary Committee for nominations, now head of the Article III Project, an advocacy group that helped secure confirmation of President Trump's three Court nominees. 'The six Republican-appointed justices are sticking together as much as they are because of her. She is having the opposite effect of what the Democrats intended.' . . . 'The biggest loser in Justice Jackson's tenure is Elena Kagan,' Mike Davis of Article III told me. Why? 'Because she's going to be writing dissents for the rest of her life.' dailymail.com/debate/article…

@jeffcharlesjr @HannahDCox Electing Justice is no panacea either. Justice by popularity? Should Justice by subject to popularity? Is the present process for justices in Kansas beneficial to their position? Like delegating Judicial vetting to the ABA? Was honorable when started, not so much recentl history.

@cspanwj @MimiGeerges @RepGarretGraves Have primaries whether open or closed can be gamed? Besides the number of candidates, why Have a primary at all when anyone can cast a vote for anyone else? Is the nominating part deals with bringing contrast, policy info to the floor? Open, popularity contest?

.@MimiGeerges: "Open primaries — explain why you're in favor of that." @RepGarretGraves: "At the end of the day, you have to represent all of the constituents — not just the Democrats or the Republicans. … An open primary system is more consistent with why we had the Boston Tea Party. I think it's more consistent with the values and fundamentals of a democracy. … An open primary system would result in restoring more functionality in Congress, better representation, and I think we have examples that prove it."

Artificial intelligence is "incredibly unpopular technology" that is essentially being forced on people, says writer @astradisastra. Data centers are facing stiff resistance in communities across the United States, providing "local choke points where people can come together and push back on the billionaire Big Tech agenda."

AOC: What is extremely disturbing about what has happened in Virginia is this court overturned the will of three million Virginians. They can say what they want about the ballot initiative, but they explicitly chose to issue this ruling after the election happened. They had all the time in the world to issue an opinion or an injunction before allowing this election to happen. They did not overturn a map—they overturned an election. It is the power of the American people that should be the ultimate check on all three branches. The court’s ability to overturn an election that was clear in its result should be something that is called into question.

@IamApostleLove @rmprescott @Acyn @MeidasTouch The referendum was unlawful. This is what the court opinion states clearly, conceded by the State during Oral Argimebt when pointed out that the State asked for the Scott rule, to delay the SCOVA's opinion in February 2026. When was the referendum vote held?

My facts are correct and I also have a law degree. The ruling is contrived. It is unprecedented to overrule a lawful referendum vote on any grounds. They claim technical procedures were not followed but now Republicans are talking about pausing elections so they can rig (gerrymander) the elections. It's a hyocritcal and self-serving opinion from a co-opted Court. The decision is not grounded in any of the legal principles I learned in law school. The court is trying to justify an unconstitutional gerrymander to enable state legislatures to redraw a voting map mid-decade to subvert the will of the people. Not just some people but all people. Injustice for some is truly injustice for all. Where's the love? Matthew 22:36-40 (NIV).

BREAKING: Notice has just been given to Democrats in the Tennessee House that all members of the Democrat Caucus are being removed from all standing committees and subcommittees as a result of their behavior in the statehouse during the redistricting debates last week, which included setting fires inside the Capitol and attacking law enforcement. In the state of Tennessee, political terrorism will not be tolerated. National Republicans take note that this is how you exercise power.

Mockler: He took office and spiked 2.9% inflation, up to 3.8%. Gas prices are up to $4.50 in most states, and he did this all while stripping insurance away from 10 million Americans. I think the most impressive part is the deficit hasn't decreased at all.

Trump is governing exactly 180 degrees opposite of how he campaigned. I know all politicians lie to get elected, but this is truly stunning. I haven’t seen a con job like his presidential campaign since Nigerian Princes learned to email:

Speaker of the TN House Cameron Sexton just removed me and every Democrat — and therefore every Black elected official in the state legislature from any committee we served on. This move strips nearly 2 million Tennesseans from the representation they deserve in TN state leg.

Under Pete Buttigieg, the NOTAM system that alerts pilots about information like weather, airspace & runway closures BROKE DOWN - grounding planes nationwide for the first time since 9/11. Why? It was old & outdated. Built in 1985. And Pete didn’t fix it. Under my leadership, America now has a BRAND NEW state-of-the-art NOTAM system. At @USDOT we’re moving at the speed of Trump! 🇺🇸

This looks like a deliberate extermination of a people. The destruction is almost impossible for my brain to process even though i am looking directly at it & see it clearly. Our government actually funded this. Our money & resources are continually going to create hellscapes abroad while our country decays & rots internally at an increasing rapid pace. I’m pretty sure this is a clear indication that our empire is quickly ending & we’re acting irrationally violent like all ending empires. Voting will not change this, the Democrats have rigged their own primaries since 2016, so we aren’t even allowed the illusion of a choice. We only are allowed to vote for the puppet of the Oligarch’s machine, and things keep getting worse & worse. The next cycle will be no different. I don’t have an answer or solution except for one I know will most likely never happen. Workers uniting to rise up & shut down the Oligarchy we live in , bring it to its knees, and start over. I don’t know how to bring that about, but i’ll join with anyone who does.

I appreciate the intense interest in my column. For skeptics, why not agree on Red Cross and lawyer visits for the 9,000 Palestinian "security" prisoners? If you think these abuse allegations are false, such monitoring visits would be protective. So why not?
Nicholas Kristof@NickKristof

This is a hard article to read, but I hope you'll do so. I've spent some time reporting on widespread rape and other sexual violence of Palestinian male and female prisoners by Israeli authorities, and the article is now published. The assault victims were warned not to give speak of what they endured -- they were sometimes told they would be killed or raped if they gave interviews -- but they found the courage to do so. One man described being raped three times in a single day in Israeli prison, the third time after he tried to protest. A young woman said the guards would come in at the beginning of each shift and strip her naked and abuse her. Another reported that she was shown photos of herself being raped and warned they would be released unless she cooperated with Israeli intelligence. Even three children who had been detained told me they had been sexually abused. Look, whatever our position on the Middle East, we should be able to agree on being anti-rape. Sexual assaults were horrific when Israeli women were targeted on Oct. 7, and they're equally horrific when Israeli authorities use them against Palestinians day after day after day. We should be able to find common ground in opposing rape. Here's a gift link to the article: nytimes.com/2026/05/11/opi…
