Mike, if the majority of people were saying this is a great idea you’d be on the tv saying it’s a bad idea. You’re only doing this to stay relevant. If your only argument is that this money will help poorer countries then do you not think FIFA could come up with a better solution than selling 20% of football to his mates so they can all get a cut of the profits? Like seriously answer me that question. If fifa want to give the Solomon Islands $40 million and any other poorer country they can! They can afford that. They are supposed to reinvest the profits back into football but instead they are sitting on it. Why sell a 20% stake of something when you have a pretty lucrative cash balance already and for something you do already very well? This whole thing is just a way for him and his American friends to get a payday. How you can’t see that is dumbfounding. But like I said do what you can to stay relevant I suppose. You’re nothing but an old fart spouting rubbish!

I honestly can't understand the mass opposition to the Infantino plan to expand football as a business and spread it's even greater potential and wealth around the world in top marketing hands. I think there's an anti American and "business is bad" feeling here @Mattallwright

FIFA don’t need the investment though. If they want to give the Asian and African federations 40 million they can well afford that. You’re only doing this so you think it will keep you relevant! Anyone with a brain cell will tell you this is infantino letting his mates get a piece of the action.

Does Gianni Infantino run the X account also? Everyone in FIFA are against it or quitting because they are against it. So whoever runs this account X account might choose their loyalties quickly before shit hits the fan for Infantino because it is coming and it’s only a matter of time before this becomes a legal matter if it’s pursued any further.

@MurphysFlawPC @MsAnnaBaxter @glenn_tunes Yet you couldn’t answer the OP’s question 😂. As someone quoted Trump - “it’s the uneducated who will follow me” and he wasn’t wrong. You my good sir are a fucking nonce. If you’re educated then answer his question and I might then have a different opinion!

@cnxnicolee @RottieDad20 Genuinely, I crawled all the replies on the OP and still don’t see a world where you aren’t wrong here. It is possible I missed your point entirely but what point were you trying to make before jumping in and giving my side.

This isn’t very accurate, is it? @TouchlineX I strongly disagree that the Premier League is the most competitive league in the world. In my opinion, the Bundesliga should be ranked as the most competitive league. No matter how good a team is, any other team can beat them on any given day.

@fifamedia Infantino needs to go as far away from football as much as possible! Guy is only out for himself and his mates in the White House.

FIFA doesn’t need private investment to grow the game. It already generates billions and has the resources to invest in football around the world without selling off a stake. This proposal looks more like an opportunity for private investors to extract profits than something that benefits the sport. Private equity doesn’t invest out of passion—it invests for returns. If investors buy into FIFA, they’ll inevitably want more revenue, which likely means more tournaments, more commercialisation, and an even more congested calendar. We’ve already seen the introduction of the expanded Club World Cup. What’s next? More FIFA competitions every few years? The people who pay the price are the players through increased workloads, injuries, and burnout, while the quality and integrity of the game suffer. And yes, I’m not surprised you don’t see the issue. In the U.S., youth football often requires families to pay thousands of dollars just to play at club level. Maybe the U.S. Soccer system should focus on making the sport more accessible before lecturing the rest of the world about the game we’ve been living and breathing for generations. Do you understand the concern now, or are you still missing the point?

if you think UEFA are genuinely trying to “save football”, you are so gullible. They just dont want FIFA to leverage their global reach and become a serious competitor, or intrude on their financial sources. Other confederations should NOT join UEFA in boycotting👍🏽

What happens if FIFA goes ahead with their plan, sell part of the World Cup to investors and now that European nations aren’t involved the payoff to football associations across the globe skyrockets, making it even more tempting? UEFA have walked into a trap?

@yinkanubi Infantino will likely get his votes but a World Cup without Europe is another tournament where you watch Nigeria draw 0-0 with Malawi.

@ChadtheDestro @declan_hill Another American to debate with me on football 😂. The European Championships is a better quality tournament than the World Cup! But look UEFA are boycotting it now anyway so it doesn’t matter! Youse can all have your World Cup full of shit teams.

This is the end. The proposed plan to sell off a section of FIFA to a group of investors led by Donald Trump’s son-in-law is the end of the credibility of Gianni Infantino’s FIFA. How can we take such an organization seriously? Remember the Folarin Balogun red card scandal where Donald Trump phoned up Gianni to get the one game suspension overturned. How does that decision seem to you, now you know there was a proposed ten-billion-dollars deal between the two men? More at: declanhill.com/the-normalizat…

@kylamb8 I’m not trying to be funny here mate but what would you know about UEFA or FIFA? You watched a couple of games over the summer and now you’re saying UEFA needs the world? Winning the European Championships is debatably more difficult than winning the World Cup.

High horse? What are you talking about? People are using pure logic you are just spouting rubbish. If UEFA organised European championships for every two years it would absolutely and inevitably be a lot bigger than a “World Cup” where you get to watch Vietnam against Panama. I would go as far to argue that the European championships is harder to win than a World Cup.

@hehe87473974 Well, a “World Cup” with only 12 European nations is simply another EUROS, perhaps, a nations league. Also, UEFA is much more than just France, Germany, etc. get off your high horse.

This is elitism. This thought process, respectfully, has flaws. UEFA NEEDS FIFA. You think Germany and the other teams can get better by playing alone? You think the rest of the world will be interested in watching that? European football is enjoying GLOBAL money!
Stan Collymore@StanCollymore

Cape Verde was a great story. Truly great. But 2 weeks after, football doesn't give a fuck, less so after 1, 2 or 4 years. If Mauritius, Mozambique, Mali do the same, great, but for 99% of fans, 99% of the time, across the world, nobody cares. If France, Italy, Germany, England, Spain, Netherlands, Portugal boycott a World Cup, it's automatically invalid. It's just the truth. Likewise, a club World Cup without any of Europe's top 25 clubs is invalid. Nobody is watching Inter Miami v Boca Juniors except in markets that simply don't generate revenue or global interest. UEFA should immediately take over global law making ( UEFA replace FIFA 4 votes in a new IFAB with the 4 home nations continuing holding the other 4 votes). Europe has paid football's bills for 150 years. It does not need to vote for a man in an island of 100,000 to hold the game to random because FIFA are giving him 20 mil. I'm half English, half Barbadian. One has paid its football dues, the other hasn't, so the other cannot and must not hold the balance of power. When two thirds of football nations fill their stadiums, support grassroots football, create a pyramid, have women's teams, find kids, then their vote is equal to a European powerhouse. Not a day before. Time for UEFA to secede from FIFA FIFA needs UEFA. UEFA doesn't need FIFA.
