Today is my last day at Epic. I have made the difficult decision to strike out on my own for a while. I want to be clear: this decision was made BEFORE the recent layoffs and is completely unrelated. Epic is an incredible company with top talent that knows how to EXECUTE. They are navigating a difficult time right now. But I have every faith in the team's ability to come out the other side of this with a toolset that will redefine how games are built. While reminiscing about my time here, it's impossible not to marvel at how far animation has come in Unreal Engine. The team at Epic created the best rigging paradigm in the world with Control Rig-- enabling people to create offline puppets for keyframing or runtime procedural animation, all within a unified workflow. There are so many people I could mention who influenced me greatly during my 5 year tenure. Suffice to say that Epic is a very special place with the best talent in the industry and I will miss it dearly. I will continue to take an active interest in all things Unreal Engine. But I'm taking some time to develop skills (and potentially tools) in some adjacent fields like RL and robotics. I have a lot of learning to do. There are lots of things to build. Many people have recommended I do it out in the open. I like that idea, so stay tuned! 🫶

Recently finished a 2-week UE Rigging workshop in 5.7 by @EpicGames, and here's my submission showcasing a biped rig setup in Control Rig. It was intense and brain-melting, but I really enjoyed it. As usual, more details in YT description youtu.be/40bzImGgmCQ #MadeWithUnreal

@clongmire42 @garrettsstudio Mover Component 😱 Sounds exciting! Btw great thinking with this kinda implementation. You always come up with these smart ideas to make locomotion in games very intuitive. 🫡

@garrettsstudio There's always lots in motion at Epic so plans change often. Cant say anything for certain. If we got our way it'd have everything you could ever want, but we have to take things one step at a time... But next update may have something that rhymes with "hoover proponent" ;)

Trying something fun, calling them "spin transitions", which basically allow for seamless transitions between rotation modes. Not an original concept but also not common...though maybe soon that'll change :)

That’s me hit my first quarter-century in game development. Marked it by hiking the tor of Clachnaben. Looking forward to the next 25 years.

@WillFaucherVFX I totally agree. After using this engine for more than a decade, 5.6 suddenly feels like an entirely new software in terms of UI/UX changes. It is a bit difficult to retrain your muscle memory to find even the simplest options.

Maybe it's just me and I've not gotten used to it yet after nearly a decade of it being a different way, but this new toolbar in #ue5.6 feels a bit overengineered and obnoxious
