Spoke with @CNBC’s @amitoj that India has not taken any explicit sides in the US-Israel-Iran war so far and has been maintaining neutrality while advocating for restraint, dialogue, escalation-avoidance and protection of civilian lives while safeguarding its economic and geo-political interests, along with those of its diaspora. India is the only BRICS founding nation which has not condemned the war so far. While India has not taken any side in the war, India's national interests definitely lie more with the US-Israel and their allies, vis-a-vis Iran. India’s delicate balancing act is largely due to its energy security as almost three fourths of India’s oil imports come through the Strait of Hormuz that been badly affected in the current crisis. Also, millions of Indians live and work across the West Asia whose protection is its priority. In addition, India has been a major importer of defence equipment from Israel (India accounts for 38% of Israel’s defence exports) and hugely values this strategic cooperation in its technology-driven security requirements. India’s investments in the Chabahar port, providing access to Afghanistan and Central Asia, bypassing Pakistan, is also a reason behind India’s neutral position. India has every right to continue its stand based on its interest, the call of Chinese Foreign Minister notwithstanding!
