Shopify just killed our business overnight and it’s happening to other real brands too.
What just happened to us should terrify every serious Shopify merchant.
We’re an established brand in our space, generating $500k every month. Yet our Shopify Payments was completely disabled overnight without warning, with 100% of our money placed on hold, including six figures in pending payouts that had stacked up because of Shopify’s 7-day payout system.
We submitted our appeal immediately, clearly explaining what caused the issue and what we did to fully address it.
That was 7 days ago. No response. No approval. No rejection. No update of any kind. It doesn’t even seem like anyone has read the appeal.
For 7 days, our business has been forced into standby, losing tens of thousands in revenue every single day and hundreds of thousands per week, simply because Shopify won’t even review the appeal.
How long does this go on for? Another week? Two weeks? A month?
On top of all this, we employ over 10 people who rely on their paychecks from our business to feed their families.
Shopify pulled the plug overnight with zero warning, and once the money was placed on hold, they simply stopped caring.
We’re living proof that Shopify doesn’t care about its merchants. They can hold all of your money without warning and then take forever to even look at your appeal, if they ever do.

This is how Shopify Support responds when they’re holding over $200K on your balance (not a hold, just delayed payouts on all new stores started after August 2025) and you ask when payouts will return to the normal 2–3 days.
They can’t even say if payouts will ever be fixed, let alone show any care for the issue. I explained that new businesses can’t open additional stores under these conditions, and they don't even care.
Dropshipping is dead for all new people (using US Shopify Payments) that dont have experience and dont have tens of thousands in the bank, because of delayed payouts. It's impossible to pay for your ads and scale, not to mention paying your supplier. Even with 30%+ profit margins like i have.
Has there ever been a $100B Company with support more useless than Shopify?

@mercury @immad Mercury just pulled the rug on our business overnight… and it should TERRIFY every founder banking with them.
We are a real, established e-commerce brand. $10M+ in processed revenue. With Mercury for 4 YEARS. Fully compliant. Fully operational.
And then out of nowhere we get an email saying our account will be CLOSED in 2 weeks. No real explanation. No answers from support. Nothing.
Do you understand what that means??
We now have to scramble to move EVERYTHING - payroll, vendors, incoming payments - RIGHT before Q4, the single most important quarter of the year.
This is a NIGHTMARE scenario.
And it’s not just us. At least 5 other founders we know got hit at the exact same time.
A platform this size should PROTECT real businesses, not leave them stranded with a vague “compliance” excuse.
Cutting off trusted brands while offering ZERO transparency is negligence at best, complicity at worst.
What are we supposed to do now??? Mercury won’t tell us WHY. They won’t explain ANYTHING.
We’re employing people who rely on paychecks to feed their families. We’re serving customers who expect us to operate smoothly.
Instead we’re forced into chaos, stress, and potentially MASSIVE losses because Mercury decided to rug pull us.
Think about it for a second…
If this can happen to a $10M+ brand with 4 years of history, it can happen to ANY founder, ANY startup, ANY business.
@mercury @immad - are you going to fix this??? Or should every founder out there start questioning if they’re next?

Have people stopped running new stores this Q4?
Why is nobody complaining about the 7-10 day payouts on all stores created after August 2025?
It's impossible to run a new store with paid ads at the moment.
Shopify has killed dropshipping and ecom in general unless you have hundreds of thousands beforehand.
Contacting Shopify Support everyday and they do absolutely nothing as always.

@harleyf @shopify @tobi @shopifysupport Shopify just killed our business overnight and it’s killing other brands too…
What just happened to us should terrify every real Shopify brand.
We are an established brand in the space, fully protected and generating almost $1M every month.
Yet ALL our products just got suspended because of a DMCA filed by a fake account created YESTERDAY, not many days ago, YESTERDAY, using OUR images with OUR logo still on them.
A platform of this scale should protect real merchants, not enable this kind of fraud to happen so easily.
Suspending an established brand while protecting scammers is negligence at best, complicity at worst.
What are you going to do for that now??? We already provided counter notice immediately and now you’re going to let us wait 10-15 business days to receive an answer?? This is going to cost us HUNDREDS of thousands...
On top of all that, we've employed over 10 people, who rely on their paychecks to feed their kids.
And Shopify pulled the plug overnight… over a DMCA filed by a 1-day-old obviously fake store. Think about it for a second…
We’re living proof Shopify protects scammers more than real merchants.
