Like I'm sorry but Florida Republicans just straight up ignored a Constitutional amendment voters passed to enfranchise former prisoners and you just can't keep stoically telling normie Dems that they just have to keep playing Calvinball. The center can not hold here
David Crockett@davidcrockett08

Florida and Virginia have different Constitutions though! That Florida violates theirs does not mean Virginia can violate theirs too, as a treat, and that Virginia Courts would rule on that basis.

ICE pulled a gun on a NY teenager, beat him, and then realized they got the wrong guy. Like other cases targeting citizens, ICE dumped him in a random location far from his home, bloody and injured.

to be clear -- these aren't "brutal for dems," they're brutal for democracy. being a political journalist who covers everything in sports frames won't save you when it's your rights on the chopping block.
Kirk A. Bado@kirk_bado

Brutal last 10 days for Dems in redistricting: - Callais decision significantly weakens VRA, opening the door for more redraws - TN Republicans pass 9-0 congressional map - LA on track to eliminate at least 1 Dem seat - VA Supreme Court overturns Dems' 10-1 map

The Republicans are INCREDIBLY unpopular. The president is tanking the economy and destroying the country. They very well could keep control of the House solely because they decided to re-draw a bunch of districts months before the election. And people are giddy about it, rather than being absolutely distraught about our democracy. Because it's all a game.

@HighImpactInfo That's why it's so sad. Other times have arguably been worse, at least in some ways, but this is just needless destruction brought on by mass stupidity. None of it was necessary.

It should be noted, not one year of the New Deal or Great Society makes the list od the 10 largest annual deficits in American History. At this point not even one year of WWII does either. 4 of the 5 largest immediately follow the two largest tax cuts, by W and Trump. -OS

Interesting how the national debt panic (and the beltway groups that fulminated about it) vanished - even though the total debt has more than doubled since the 2011 debt ceiling wars. Great @RichardRubinDC story, WSJ A1, no discourse! wsj.com/economy/u-s-de…

The new Trump administration counterterrorism strategy document is not getting nearly enough attention. The document explicitly lists “left-wing extremists,” people with “radically pro-transgender” ideologies, and “anti-fascists” alongside ISIS and cartels as top national security threats. It discusses using counterterrorism powers to “map” domestic groups, identify memberships, and target ties to organizations like Antifa. It also attacks Europe, calling for halting what it calls its “willful decline.”

@EnswellJones I recall there was a study done that showed yellow pads legitimately helped goalies - I’m guessing the pads blend in with the yellow stripe that’s at the bottom of the boards in every rink.

Once asked Matt Murray whether the colour of goalie pads matters, because I honestly wondered and didn’t know. Nearby hockey writer scoffed. Murray then gave a great answer that he didn’t know either and was in the middle of an experiment to find out.

A great journalism lesson: If you are trying to get good answers from someone in an interview, one of the worst ways to do it is long-ass questions designed to make you (the interviewer) feel or look smart.
