It all boils down to: 1. Providing the best tools to create content 2. Incentivizing the highest quality content 3. Ranking that content so it finds its audience Nothing else matters.

There's no good scientific or technological reason why students can't move at their own pace. It's not too expensive. It's just misaligned incentives, institutional inertia, vested interests in keeping things archaic. The science is stable: Key learning-enhancing practice strategies (like mastery learning, spaced review, retrieval practice, interleaving, etc.) have been known and well-replicated since the early to mid 1900s. The technology is here: we put a man on the moon with computers weaker than a digital watch, and the chromebooks now commonplace in school are supercomputers by comparison. You're telling me we overcame the gravity of the Earth over half a century ago, and yet we still can't overcome the gravity of educational mediocrity? Bullshit.

Met with my doctoral advisor to discuss my dissertation topic. He asked, “What problem in education do you want to solve?” I said: “Students should be able to move through curriculum at their own pace (with a required minimum).” He replied, “That’s not possible. It’s too expensive to individualize education. Why not focus on improving test scores or student engagement?” I said, “If you individualize instruction, those issues improve naturally.” (20 minutes later) He said, “I’m not sure I agree, but it’s clear you care deeply about this. I’ll approve it.”

There's is Indian uproar on X over Thailand reducing the tourist visa stay for #Indians from 60 days to just 15 days. But calling Thais racist is neither fair nor true. Why this happened 👇 - Extremely loud (beyond a joke loud) - Lack of personal space, pushing - Treating hotel staff like servants - Hygiene issues in shared spaces - Lack of cultural adaptation - Inappropriate behaviour towards women 👀 - Pack (group mentality) Massive groups of men - Littering (dropping trash) - Stealing hotel amenities - Urinating on beaches - Indian prostitutes now seen in Bangkok/Pattaya - Disregard for queues / lines - Lack of deodorant usage (sorry but its true) - Working illegally. This is evident in most tourist hotspots. - Generally rude - Tight, the perception is Indians don't spend money All of these issues above have spiraled to a point now where other nationalities are avoiding certain Thai tourist towns and resorts that are heavily dominated by Indians tourists. Sort it out guys. Its pretty bad out there. Nothing to do with racism. Even Expats Indians in Bangkok having been having this conversation for over two years now and they all agree, by and large the behaviour of many Indian tourists is extremely poor. #India #IndianTourists

The Forgotten ‘Man’ 👨‍⚖️
INDIA’S JUDICIARY: Every 3rd High Court Judge is an “Uncle” This 2010 exposé on Punjab & Haryana High Court is damning proof of deep-rooted nepotism and shameless family favoritism. Sons, nephews, wives, brothers, sisters & in-laws — all practicing as advocates in the SAME court where their relative sits as a Judge. A list of 16 such “Uncle Judges” was officially forwarded to the Union Law Ministry. Just look at this table. Clear, blatant conflict of interest. How the can justice be delivered fairly when family members argue cases before their own “Uncle”? The Law Commission and Bar Council flagged this years ago. Nothing changed. This uncle culture has destroyed public faith in the judiciary. Merit is dead. Nepotism rules. We need ruthless reforms NOW: - Ban close relatives from practicing in the same court - Mandatory public declaration of family links - Strict penalties for violations Enough is enough. The temple of justice has become a family business.

Cockroach is Back

The government has taken down our iconic website - cockroachjantaparty.org. 10 Lakh cockroaches had signed up on our website has members. 6 Lakh cockroaches had signed a petition to demand the resignation of Dharmendra Pradhan. Why is the government so scared of cockroaches? But this dictatorial behaviour is opening the eyes of India's youth. Our only crime is we were demanding a better future for ourselves. But you can't get rid of us that easily. We’re working on a new home right now. Cockroaches never die. 🪳

The problem with everything we see is the filming. Once filmed and something goes viral it becomes a memetic virus. Then it’s all performative, it’s all for the camera, it all has a warholian voyeuristic element to it. It feels very uncanny valley in its performative nature because we read the emotions as inauthentic when without the camera it would be a potentially funny family moment.

India in Pixels by Ashris 🔱
Hinduism itself. A billion people taught to find meaning in unity and bhakti. Imagine a billion people taught to find meaning in excellence instead. Shed the defeatist myth that we are trapped in Kali Yuga. We aren't. It’s an excuse that rationalizes weakness as wisdom and passivity as destiny. Burn it. Nobody is coming to liberate us, only we can do it. The Vedic civilization wanted to conquer the world. Somewhere we forgot. We must trade the paralysis of endless abstraction and detachment for the pursuit of tangible perfection. Stop debating the universe, start conquering it through obsessive excellence and raw beauty! Fewer Upanishadic lectures. More Rigvedic Samhitic fire.

One of the most important outcomes of delimitation would have been correcting India’s deeply flawed urban representation. Since 1971, India has transformed. We have urbanised rapidly. Our cities now drive jobs, growth, innovation and aspirations. But our Parliament and State Assemblies still do not adequately reflect urban India. This is why our cities lack the political capital needed to improve quality of life, public transport, housing, infrastructure and livability. By stalling delimitation, the Opposition has not only done a disservice to women and to the interests of southern India. It has also done a grave disservice to millions of Indians living in our cities. Weak urban representation means weaker cities. Weaker cities mean poorer livability, slower growth and lost opportunities for India.
The Economist@TheEconomist

Why are India’s cities so chaotic? They have grown at a blistering pace, but lack proper political representation because the country has a lopsided electoral system. The Economist examines the problem and what can be done to fix it for our new column about India, Ashoka econ.st/42OMbu8

At Indian workplaces I've often seen male colleagues referring to another male senior colleague as "bhaiya" especially in tech teams. But I've never seen a didi equivalent among female colleagues. Why is that
