Make Pune the model city for PM Modi’s fuel conservation vision. Triple seat riders are already maximizing passenger efficiency, signal jumpers are minimizing fuel wastage at idle & wrong side drivers are reducing unnecessary travel distance.

PM Modi just asked 1.4 billion Indians to STOP buying gold for 1 year. Why did he say it - only 0.01% understand. Let's connect the dots 🧵👇

Totally support PM @narendramodi's austerity talk. Here is what the govt can do: 1. Trim the convoy: Scale down massive VIP motorcades. Fewer gas-guzzling SUVs on the road directly saves fuel, cuts emissions, and reduces public traffic jams. 2. Limit VVIP travel: No non-essential domestic or international trips. Prioritise virtual summits and video conferences over heavy-budget physical travel delegations. 3. Stop the off-duty fuel perks: Enforce strict logging of government-issued vehicles to ensure they are strictly used for official duty, no personal weekend family trips on taxpayer-funded fuel. 4. Digitise and save paper: Mandate a 100% transition to digital file-sharing across secretariats. Cut down the massive budgets spent on physical paperwork, luxury printing, and high-end official diaries. 5. Keep office upgrades on hold: Freeze all non-essential renovations of government offices, bungalows, and VVIP lounges for the next 12 months. The economic pressure from the West Asia conflict is real, and conserving forex is a national duty. Let austerity be a two-way street.

I watched @narendramodi ji’s Hyderabad speech very carefully. His appeal for economic self-reliance, sustainable living, and reduced import dependency was much needed, and people listen to him. But his govt and the @BJP4India state govts should lead by example. Here are a few of my asks from the govts. 1) Shift to online inaugurations of ALL projects. No city needs a massive VIP entourage and 30 police cars blocking traffic every 15 days because a minister has to come to inaugurate a bridge/road/tunnel/hospital. This is also non-essential travel. VIP entourages are going out of hand and that’s a waste of public money. 2) Most politicians, from all parties, spend huge amounts of money on lavish weddings. There should be a ceiling on that first. At least here @BJP4India can take the lead. 3) Prioritising Made-in-India and locally manufactured products is a very necessary ask, but again, should be started from the top. What stops @BJP4India politicians from wearing a made-in-India watch, carrying a made-in-India phone, wearing made-in-India textiles? People listen to you @narendramodi because you usually practise what you preach, but what about the rest of your govt and the state BJP govts? When will they walk the talk?

Opposite vimlabai garware college All these drainage lids are in pathetic condition. Half of the busiest road Karve road becomes useless because of this. Apparently for each lid more than 12 thousand per lid was paid extra during recent cycle race. @PMCPune @aparanjape @omkarasks

I will admit this openly not too long ago, I was one of those who thought protests against every new infrastructure project were just ugichach resistance by the “environmentalists” type. Pune, I believed, needed stronger infrastructure to match its growing population….People commuting daily via SB Road to reach Paud Road or Kothrud did deserve an alternative. But 4 experiences completely changed my perspective: 1. The Hirwai Track.
Once a canal embankment, PMC decided to convert it into a road to ease congestion. A small but determined group fought a long court battle & won. The road was scrapped. Today, Hirwai serves as a peaceful walking track one of the few places left where walking in Pune feels possible, given the sorry state of our footpaths. 2. The Vetal Tekdi Bachav Samiti session.
At a talk hosted by the group, @sumitakale presented PMC-approved maps, data & traffic studies. At that time, there was no mention of Survey No. 44 or the builder nexus. But the analysis made it clear: the BB–PP project would barely change commute times. What it would change irreversibly was the landscape. 3. The on-ground “walk” with PMC officials.
This was meant to demonstrate the “minimal impact” of the BB–PP road. @SidShirole and @mohol_murlidhar were present. What it revealed instead was total confusion the PMC’s maps didn’t match what officials were showing on-site. It became glaringly obvious that the plan would carve deep into Vetal Tekdi, not just “touch a sliver” of it as claimed. 4. PMC’s track record.
Let’s be honest in the last decade, Pune’s existing roads have only worsened. Trusting the same body with ₹250+ crore for a 2.1 km project now feels like a colossal mistake. I didn’t need Survey no. 44 to be the reason to change my mind. Proposed BB-PP road is a disaster on many levels.
Vetal Tekdi@VetalTekdi

Folks like @KelkarSharad and @godbole_shilpa are great examples of openness and honest inquiry. That afforded them a switch from assumption-based PoV to a well-informed position. Many have realised that #BBPP road is "a clever scheme to burn public money to hack public commons"
