19 May is the feast of St Dunstan, one of the greatest saints of Anglo-Saxon England, who died in 988. Archbishop of Canterbury during a transformative time for the English church and nation, he was also a talented musician, craftsman and devil-fighter. aclerkofoxford.blogspot.com/2014/05/an-ang…

@mrwtffacts Probably the Prison Industry Authority program in California Men's Colony where Singleton was sent for his sentence: lao.ca.gov/1996/043096_pi…
English

@mrwtffacts latimes.com/archives/la-xp…
He was sentenced to 14 years (the judge gave him the legal maximum sentence) and reduced his time under a 1983 work incentive law and for good behavior.

In 1978, 15-year-old Mary Vincent was hitchhiking when a 51-year-old man pulled up. Mary was relieved, but the man had different intentions.
Lawrence Singleton took her to a secluded mountain, raped her, then hacked off both her forearms with an axe.
He then threw her off a 30-foot cliff and left her for dead.
But Mary refused to die.
In act of incredible resilience, she packed mud into her stumps to stop bleeding out, crawled back up the cliff and walked 5 km completely naked until she found help.
Mary survived and later testified in court wearing prosthetic arms.
Singleton was arrested but controversially sentenced to just 8 years. That lenient sentence backfired, when in 1997 he murdered another woman.

@KyriosityTweets Why would you ask me, a person who just identified myself as eye-contact avoidant, this question?😂
English

Sustained eye contact with anyone makes me panic a bit. 😬
sgb@sadgirlyboss
a very good test of your comparability with a person (friend or otherwise) is how sustained eye contact makes you feel

This is from a satire account and it's getting reposted by people who didn't check and think it's for real. Gotta love Twitter.

@RisingUp2026 @jakozloski Man that's what I was thinking. What kind of intelligence are we talking anyway? And I feel like the real-world issue here is "Would you marry someone whose decisions you don't trust?" and the difference is due to whether you expect to be promising to obey that person.
English

@jakozloski Intelligence is a flexible situation. If we are talking about IQ on paper yes. And we are talking about somebody who's just flat out ignorant then probably no.

Beating the Bounds of the parish in Oxford this morning with the Revd Dr William Lamb and the help of pupils from New College School!

Dr Anne E Bailey@AnneEBailey1
Happy Ascension Day! Not exactly a pilgrimage but I'm Beating the Bounds in Oxford this morning. 👣
English

@CheerfulReader @KyriosityTweets Oh interesting, I didn't know that! I see why someone might decide to do that.
English

@KyriosityTweets @anglipalian I assumed it was a nod to the Greek origin of the name
It is a little odd though

@USMC19691972 @benschierer A hot take (genuine) I have is that we'd save more lives if we worked on reducing automobile deaths, but cars are such a normal part of our infrastructure that it's genuinely unthinkable to many to mess with them. Whereas guns are these distant exotic things, so easy to condemn.
English

🤪 In Minnesota firearms are not the leading cause of death for children and teens (ages 1–17). They rank as the fourth.
You also didn't bother to mention that 70–77% of youth firearm deaths were suicides. Non-suicide firearm deaths at 24, motor vehicle crash deaths at 35 makes automobile deaths 46% higher than firearms. Automobiles are by far the leading cause of death for kids and teens in this state. By lunatic liberal logic it's obvious the DFL should be busy banning things with wheels!
By the way the Minnesota youth suicide rate is 14% higher than the national average. The facts would dictate you should be investigating Democrats pushing their idiotic gender confusion on the immature.

Starting tomorrow, we have a 2-session Zoom course exploring the myth, found in both eastern and western traditions, of a past 'Age of Gold' - a time of peace and plenty, followed by progressively declining and degenerate ages. thefintrytrust.org.uk/events/age-of-…

Love to see that people may be reconsidering whether "some people think differently" is actually a bug.

A new study shows that individuals with similar levels of autistic traits are naturally drawn to one another. Brain scans reveal they use alternative, highly effective neural strategies to connect, challenging traditional deficit-based models of autism. dlvr.it/TSSN7t
