19 May is the feast of St Dunstan, one of the greatest saints of Anglo-Saxon England, who died in 988. Archbishop of Canterbury during a transformative time for the English church and nation, he was also a talented musician, craftsman and devil-fighter. aclerkofoxford.blogspot.com/2014/05/an-ang…

If you got a sudden and unexpected windfall of 1 billion dollars right now, what percent would you donate (over the next ~10 years) to charity (excluding gifts to friends and family etc)

Hospice is here to evaluate whether to admit Mom to the program. I'm glad we're not in Canada, because she'd have no resistance to the ghouls there. 😣

@mrwtffacts latimes.com/archives/la-xp… He was sentenced to 14 years (the judge gave him the legal maximum sentence) and reduced his time under a 1983 work incentive law and for good behavior.

In 1978, 15-year-old Mary Vincent was hitchhiking when a 51-year-old man pulled up. Mary was relieved, but the man had different intentions. Lawrence Singleton took her to a secluded mountain, raped her, then hacked off both her forearms with an axe. He then threw her off a 30-foot cliff and left her for dead. But Mary refused to die. In act of incredible resilience, she packed mud into her stumps to stop bleeding out, crawled back up the cliff and walked 5 km completely naked until she found help. Mary survived and later testified in court wearing prosthetic arms. Singleton was arrested but controversially sentenced to just 8 years. That lenient sentence backfired, when in 1997 he murdered another woman.

@RisingUp2026 @jakozloski Man that's what I was thinking. What kind of intelligence are we talking anyway? And I feel like the real-world issue here is "Would you marry someone whose decisions you don't trust?" and the difference is due to whether you expect to be promising to obey that person.

@jakozloski Intelligence is a flexible situation. If we are talking about IQ on paper yes. And we are talking about somebody who's just flat out ignorant then probably no.

Every time I get to the scene in which Jane requests Mansfield Park and Shakespeare's Sonnets and the Curdie books, I feel the urge to reread Mansfield Park and Shakespeare's Sonnets and the Curdie books. This time I give in on the Curdie books. 😊

A warm narration voice with just a few mispronunciations (in particular, I see no need to give Irene a third syllable ) and the unforgivable crime, for a reader of MacDonald, of not being a Scot. 😉

@USMC19691972 @benschierer A hot take (genuine) I have is that we'd save more lives if we worked on reducing automobile deaths, but cars are such a normal part of our infrastructure that it's genuinely unthinkable to many to mess with them. Whereas guns are these distant exotic things, so easy to condemn.

🤪 In Minnesota firearms are not the leading cause of death for children and teens (ages 1–17). They rank as the fourth. You also didn't bother to mention that 70–77% of youth firearm deaths were suicides. Non-suicide firearm deaths at 24, motor vehicle crash deaths at 35 makes automobile deaths 46% higher than firearms. Automobiles are by far the leading cause of death for kids and teens in this state. By lunatic liberal logic it's obvious the DFL should be busy banning things with wheels! By the way the Minnesota youth suicide rate is 14% higher than the national average. The facts would dictate you should be investigating Democrats pushing their idiotic gender confusion on the immature.

Gun violence is the leading cause of death for kids and teens. Here in Minnesota, we have the chance to do something about it, but we can't let partisan politics stand in our way.
