I’ll say it clearly. Japan is far too defenseless when it comes to accepting foreign workers. The biggest issue is how Japan is handling workers from Islamic countries. Of course, I am not saying all Muslims are the problem. Many Muslims who come to Japan as tourists, students, or skilled professionals understand Japan’s rules and practice their faith within their own personal limits. Those people do not come to Japan and say, “Change your society to fit our religion.” Because they understand that religion is supposed to be a relationship between the individual and God, not something forced onto other people or local communities. The problem is that Japan is now trying to bring in large numbers of people who may not have that same level of education, cultural understanding, or willingness to adapt. If people come to Japan without understanding Japanese society, then conflict over religion, gender norms, lifestyle, and local manners is inevitable. And when that conflict happens, Japan immediately backs down. “We need prayer spaces.” “We need burial grounds.” “We need religious accommodations.” Why is Japan always the side expected to bend first? If you come to Japan, you should respect Japanese law, Japanese culture, and Japanese communities. Freedom of religion exists. But freedom of religion does not mean the right to force Japan to change. Islam itself allows flexibility when religious practices are difficult because of the environment. In other words, people can practice within their own limits. So why should Japan be expected to prepare burial grounds, build prayer spaces, and silence local residents’ concerns just to accommodate them? That is not coexistence. That is one-sided surrender. And once Japan shows that attitude, some people will inevitably think: “If we demand more, they will give in.” “Japan backs down if we push hard enough.” “Japanese people will not complain.” Then local communities slowly begin to change. First prayer spaces. Then burial grounds. Then school lunches. Then workplace rules. Then local customs. Once something is changed, it is not easy to change it back. What makes me even angrier is that many local governments and politicians are pushing this forward with pretty slogans, while barely understanding Islam, foreign labor, or the communities that will have to deal with the consequences. “Multicultural coexistence.” “Labor shortage.” “Globalization.” Nice words. But the burden will fall on ordinary Japanese people. Local residents. Schools. Workplaces. Women. Children. Accepting foreign workers is not just about filling labor shortages. It changes culture, religion, public safety, local communities, and the future lives of the next generation. That is why Japan’s current approach is so dangerous. If you come to Japan, adapt to Japan. If you cannot do that, Japan does not need to force itself to accept you. Japan should not hand over its society just because it has a labor shortage. Foreign workers. Immigration policy. The future of Japan. This is something Japan needs to stop and seriously rethink now.
