@GeorgeCochrane1 I'm saying 1979 (second petrol crisis in UK)? S Reg in line, decimalized petrol price which is up a good bit from when I was pumping petrol in 1970-71 when a gallon of 4* was 6/8.

Does anyone think that restaurants should offer a senior menu for older customers? 🍽️💁🏼‍♀️

🔴 @Delta is cutting in-flight service on 450 daily flights starting May 19, and frequent flyers are NOT happy about it. From that date, any flight under 350 miles in economy will get zero service. Nothing. Not even water. That covers a lot of routes people fly every single week for work. The old system had an express service on flights of 251 to 499 miles, which was coffee, tea, or water. That is now gone entirely for shorter hops. Now, to be fair, there is a flip side. Around 600 daily flights in the 350 to 499 mile range are actually getting upgraded from express to full beverage service. So more people overall will get a proper drink cart. First class keeps full service across the board regardless of distance. #Delta #DeltaAirLines #Aviation

This was my calculator in college. On the plus side, it didn't need any batteries. Anybody else ever use one?

When ice cream stops being ice cream. Natural ingredients are expensive, and ultra-processed, industrial scale ingredients (eg Guar gum) are cheap.

Intelligent people struggle with addiction. Their minds need more. They have obsessions nobody around them shares. Philosophy. Astronomy. Dostoevsky. Jazz. Quantum physics. Things they know deeply. Things they've gone so deep into that anything else feel like small talk. And small talk feels like suffocation. So... they drink. Work until 2 am. Doomscroll until they're numb. Because there is a gap. A gap between who you are and the conversations available to you. And it's one of the loneliest places a person can live.

@Glinner In all seriousness @Glinner, WTF has happened to Ireland? Setting aside old animosities, at its core it was always conservative (small c). But now, I gather Sinn Fein is pro-immigrant when I'd expect all the old fogies from PIRA to be out six packing rapists.

@anthonyhumpage @owl_and_flowers @Con_Tomlinson Many of them work in the NHS and associated sectors and care for and care for and wipe the backsides of elderly who bemoan their existence. The immigrants work harder than many indigenous entitled brits. Some are world expert surgeons and others poorly paid carers.

A meta-analysis of 17 studies covering 226,000 people found something simple: Every additional 1,000 steps a day was associated with a 15% lower risk of dying from any cause. Not 10,000 steps. Not gym memberships. Just 1,000 more steps than you took yesterday. The biggest gains showed up between 4,000 and 8,000 steps. After that, the curve flattens out. So if you're sitting at 3,000 a day right now - ... getting to 6,000 isn't a hobby. It's one of the most powerful things you can do for your health, full stop. No prescription. No subscription. No gym required. Just the most underrated movement on the planet.

The most studied anti-inflammatory plant compound in modern science isn't a drug. It's a spice. Curcumin (the bright yellow pigment in turmeric) has been the subject of hundreds of human clinical trials, ... With the majority of musculoskeletal and metabolic studies showing benefits on inflammation markers. The catch? Plain turmeric powder is poorly absorbed. Most of what you swallow gets eliminated before it does anything. Three things change that: - A source of fat (curcumin is fat-soluble) - Heat (gentle warming activates the compound) - Black pepper (the piperine in it can boost absorption significantly) So that golden milk recipe with turmeric, ghee, black pepper, and warm milk that your grandmother's grandmother knew about? That wasn't a coincidence. It was bioavailability before anyone had a word for it.

"US healthcare is a much larger slice of GDP." where it provides many well-paying jobs, on which taxes are paid. n.b., we don't have to import too many nurses here. Respectfully there is one factor you have not included in your equation: The tens (hundreds?) of thousands of illegal immigrants who will swamp the already overburdened NHS.
