@CheyCab Not a farmer but generally curious, is there any old school solutions we can use to help crops grow? We didn’t always have fancy fertilizer.

I was out to dinner with a commodities guy recently who raised my eyebrows when he said he didn’t think farmers would plant less corn with the fertilizer prices.
Why you ask? He thinks they’ll still plant corn then file insurance claims on it. Not sure I agree, but interesting.

@MattKerney I agree with you for the most part, but you'd have to agree that Ethan, Chester, and Colman-Egan girls are well qualified for the SoDak 16 and maybe even the state tourney.

Show me a good argument w/the current format of teams that didn't deserve to be in the SoDak16 or state tourney. Losing to said team in regions isn't a valid reason..
"We deserve to be in the SoDak16! We're the better team.. Even though we lost in regions.." GMAB🙄

A lot of talk today about MCOOL. Am I a country of origin label shopper? I’m really not, I buy what I need, or what fits in my budget. Once in a while, I’ll look at a label. but if it’s concerning food, I’m already very restricted and the ingredient label is my top priority. I’ve had multiple discussions this week with consumers and producers both to ask that same question. I have yet to find someone that’s an origin shopper.
Some previous studies say that around 40% of consumers look for a USA sticker when buying beef. It was not determined how many of those actually go on to buy product.
There has been some massive confusion in the ‘Product of the US’ stamp that has been used since 1989 on product that is either processed or packaged in the US. It should have never been used in that manner.
In January 2026, it will be required in order to use the ‘product of the US label’ an animal has to be born, raised harvested, and processed in the US.
This is a voluntary program that those that are doing the packaging and processing can determine if they want to do the labeling requirements. Which I would imagine, if they think there is an economic benefit they would do so.
The thing that I do not like about MCOOL is the ‘M.’ This week we have been clamoring about the government getting involved in our industry, yet we are pushing to implement a program that would be ran by the government and would be MANDATORY.
I was driving back to the ranch from a meeting today, and I started asking Chat about what would happen if MCOOL was reinstated. Below is the summary of what chat had to say.
In the conversation in chat, it included the words audits, affidavits, verifiable records, and chat also went so far as to even include EIDS or RFIDS.
I love the idea of consumers knowing where the beef they purchase comes from. The word mandatory though usually seems to come with additional work or additional resources.
For those pushing for the word, mandatory, if origin labeling was so important, why haven’t you already found a company that does just that? Or is it because it currently means that you have to do a PVP ?
I do like the ‘product of the US’ label clarification, and I do hope it is 100% enforced. I also hope that those companies that utilize it see an economic benefit from it and reward those that are filling out those PVP’s.
If there comes a day that a mandatory law is passed, our ranch will be fine. As we already use brands, EIDs, individual animal data, etc. But I do know of a lot of producers that don’t. I hope we can have some serious discussions that are focused on fact and not emotion.

@KelseyBanks I much prefer an ATV for scouting, but if you want to use a Wintex, go with a SxS. You'll want the extra vehicle weight of a SxS.
