There was a time when Indian sports followers had many sports to choose from. There were many religions. And many gods. No marketing needed. Only skill. And he was one of them. The Indian hockey team was going through a rough phase in the 1980s. A nation that was once unbeatable was struggling to match others. But there was a broad consensus that he was perhaps the best centre forward in the world. The opposition put 2 defenders to mark him every time. And almost always, he got away. He would twist, turn and spin and swerve away, ball glued to his hockey stick. A dervish or a devil, depending on which team you were supporting. Unmatched, unparalleled. Glided on the turf like a thread of fine silk. Flicked the ball with the menace and might of a cobra. Threaded passes with surgical precision. A commentator (I think it was Cuckoo Walia) once called him “Hockey ka Maradona,” only for his colleague to say “Arre bhai, we should say Maradona is football ka Mohammad Shahid!” He was THAT good. I once saw him sitting on a cot outside his house, reading a newspaper. Unassuming. Quiet. He nodded at my father as he greeted him. Mohammad Shahid. Railways. India. Varanasi. #India #Hockey #MohammadShahid #Nostalgia (@Raja_Sw, @pradeepmagazine, @RVarmaMD, @g_rajaraman, @VatsMusings, @anandkumarn, @indranil9, @ushrit2020, @TheGrou75062162)

I first read this book in 1987, got my own copy of it in 1991 and ever since then, seldom has a year passed without me referring to it. William L. Shirer’s massive, erratic and yet masterfully narrated book on the Third Reich is not classic history. In fact, Shirer’s attempts to bring history and German culture into the book at its beginning are its weakest parts. What makes it special is its accessibility. Shirer was a reporter and had the ability to narrate events and describe people in an easy to understand manner. The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich for this reason has a quality that many historical accounts and biographies lack - flow. It spans more than a thousand pages but these fly past, making it hands down the most accessible and yet largely accurate book on The Third Reich and Adolf Hitler. No matter what many experts (real and AI) tell you, this is not a history of the Second World War l, although the War does form a massive part of the narrative. This is more a book on how the Nazis came to power, their origins and how they worked. There is politics, jealousy, cruelty, recklessness…and sheer stupidity, in ample quantities. There are amazing conversations and stackfuls of trivia in there - I didn’t know Goebbels had actually demanded that Hitler be expelled from the Nazi party! It has its share of inaccuracies, but it’s being so easy to read makes me return to it again and again. I have also lost count of the people to whom I have given the book as a present about the past. It is compelling and disturbing reading and a reminder that seemingly sensible and intelligent people can lose their way and do incredibly stupid things. Re reading one more time. Skipping most of the first chapter though. That’s Eurgh. #Books #Reading #AolfHitler #NaziGermany #Nazi #Fascism #ThirdReich #Hitler

What Has America Turned Into? It seems to have been taken straight out of the pages of Game of Thrones. They assassinated Iranian leaders from behind the scenes, including former President Ahmadinejad, who was an opposition politician. As if that weren’t enough, they bombed the house of activist Zahra Rahnavard, where she lived with her husband under house arrest since 2011. Luckily, both survived. What is the point of assassinating even opponents? So that no one is left and they can colonize the country, just like they did in Venezuela? The US was in the middle of a negotiation process when they decided to kill those people and dozens of family members who were also murdered. Who else will sit down to negotiate with the US? The American regime seems to have been taken straight out of the pages of Game of Thrones. It wasn’t only the threats of invading Greenland or the ties to separatist movements inside Canada, its neighbor and major partner, but the gangster way America has started behaving toward the world. The US and Israel today are actually the most lawless regimes on the planet. This is unbelievable because one is the greatest democracy in the West and the other is the state with the most freedoms in the Middle East, and perhaps the only real democracy there. With all the criticism directed at Putin to this day, much of it fair, in four years of war he has not killed any member of the Ukrainian government, let alone Zelensky, whom Russian drones have already gotten close to, as proven by photos. No, Putin is no good man, but even villains have their limits. The United States has unfortunately become a cruel, individualistic regime, and it would not be an exaggeration to say it is untrustworthy. When Iran began bombing American bases, instead of being evacuated, the soldiers were instructed to take shelter in expensive hotels in the region, using civilians as human shields. What has America turned into? Obviously the equally insane Iranian regime would open fire on those hotels, as it did, putting civilian lives at risk. The U.S. government has turned into the ultimate lie machine regarding a war, editing and falsifying images and numbers, often even contradicting the president's own exaggerations. It is something unimaginable. This is not to mention the claims from government members that they should occupy Kharg Island, Iran's main oil facility. In fact, the word wouldn't be 'occupy,' but rather 'purloin. Every American should pay close attention to this foreign policy because it reflects a mentality that, sooner or later, will be practiced at home, putting rights and social peace in check.

This is the condition of freelancing in India. I don’t usually use X for this. But sometimes you have to speak up so other freelancers don’t walk into the same trap. Around August 2025, I worked on a project with Honey Veda (they also appeared on @sharktankindia ) The workflow was standard: 50% upfront, 50% after delivery Everything was delivered fully documented and completed. After delivery, the person I was directly working with this guy Vivek Rajoria — suddenly changed the narrative. The project was apparently “not complete” anymore, despite receiving 100% of the deliverables. Then the classic move started: Ghosting. Delays. “Talk to the CEO Hardik Joshi instead.” The CEO Hardik Joshi apparently hardly have time to check his email, whatsapp, and all the communication media, even a cellular call. Must be an extremely busy schedule lol. After months of chasing a payment that was already earned, I eventually gave up for my own mental peace. That was 7 months ago. Today something unexpected happened. They accidentally added me to their SEO strategy call that was meant for another freelancer. I joined the call, greeted everyone normally. They said I was added by mistake. But since the CEO was on the call, I thought it was the perfect time to ask about the pending payment. The moment I started speaking: The CEO instantly left the call, then Vivek Rajoria started abusing me, and then he left the call as well. Professionalism at its finest. Fortunately, I recorded the call. The video below shows exactly how the conversation went. I’m posting this for one reason: Freelancers deserve to be paid for work they deliver. If you’re working with HoneyVeda, make sure your payment terms are protected. Learn from my mistake.

This is the TOXIC Indian freelance industry got a legal notice today. Rs. 10,00,000 penalty for "non-compliance" here's the full story: - signed a ₹X L ERP project - delivered 100% of agreed scope - they kept adding features saying "this was discussed day 1" - i absorbed it, built 40% extra out of goodwill - 6 months of over-delivering - still got a legal notice the Indian market has a specific breed of client they sign a scope, ignore it the moment work starts, gaslight you into believing their new demands were "always part of the deal" and then threaten you when you can't keep up > the signed agreement means nothing to them > your goodwill becomes their weapon > I should have walked away at month 2. > lesson learned the hard way.

One of the most cowardly acts in the history of naval warfare. I knew a British submarine commander who was awarded the Legion of Merit (LOM) by the United States for action on behalf of the US during World War II. I can not begin to tell you how disgusted that man would have been by the actions of the US Navy and by Hegseths boasting. It's absolutely shameful.

I’m completely stranded at Moscow airport… alone, helpless, and running out of hope. No one from @makemytripcare or @etihad is answering my desperate messages. Russia doesn’t accept Visa or Mastercard anymore. I have ZERO cash left. Not even for food or water. The Etihad ground staff is avoiding me more than my ex ever did — literally turning their faces away and telling me “just call customer care”… which has been busy for hours. I’m standing here like a beggar in my own nightmare. I don’t know how I’m going to get home. I’m scared. I feel abandoned by the very companies I trusted with my journey. My family is waiting and I can’t even tell them I’m safe. Please… if anyone from Etihad, MakeMyTrip, or even the Indian embassy sees this — HELP ME. And if you’re reading this, just one RT could save me. I’m begging. #StrandedInMoscow

Twenty years ago we invaded Iraq. The war killed many innocent Iraqis and Americans. It destroyed the oldest Christian populations in the world. It cost over $1 trillion, and turned Iraq into a satellite of Iran. It was an unforced disaster, and I pray that we learn its lessons.

Right now, @airindia are attempting to get us to pay for a hotel for 3 days, while ignoring the fact that we have no money bc we just came back from holiday. They're also ignoring people's medical needs. My missus is epileptic and her meds are in her suitcase but wont let her get to them, and a lady who is on DIALYSIS just told a staff member she "might die" if she doesn't get help, and he just walked off - listen. They're now trying to get us on a flight to Holland, ignoring the no money thing again. This isn't just bad service. It's criminal.

@tavleen_singh One must admire the enduring zeal of sycophants of the Ruling Party like yourself, who continue to excoriate the Congress in spite of the restrictions the Government has imposed on their family life. What explains this? The lack of a spine or entrenched hatred of the Opposition?

Apple has just published a paper with a devastating title: *The Illusion of Thinking*. And it's not a metaphor. What it demonstrates is that the AI models we use every day - yes, ones like ChatGPT - don't think. Not one bit. They just imitate doing so. Let me explain: 🧵👇
