Iran's closing of the Strait of Hormuz isn't a weapon pointed at Washington or Tel Aviv. It's a gun aimed at Tehran's own economic head, and at every "friendly" country that actually keeps the Iranian economy breathing. It's an act of self-destruction directed at Iran's own economy, and a declaration of economic war against its friends. The two countries Iran is supposedly threatening have virtually no Hormuz dependency. Meanwhile, ~90% of Iran's own oil exports pass through the Strait. Oil constitutes 40%+ of Iran's total export revenue. Iran needs oil above $163/barrel just to balance its budget, the highest fiscal breakeven of any Middle Eastern exporter. China, Iran's #1 trading partner and buyer of ~90% of its exported oil, receives 37.7% of ALL Hormuz crude flows. Half of China's entire oil import supply runs through this strait. Qatar, not Iran's enemy, produces ~20% of global LNG, almost all of it transiting Hormuz. QatarEnergy has already declared force majeure. Iraq and Kuwait, with NO bypass routes, are hemorrhaging oil revenues. UAE and Oman, both critical trade and diplomatic partners for Iran, are severely disrupted. And it gets worse for Iran itself. Virtually ALL of Iran's corn imports (its primary feed grain) arrive through Persian Gulf ports. Iran imports ~30% of its wheat. 80–90% of pharmaceutical raw materials are imported. Food inflation is already exploding inside Iran.

(با افراد به اندازهٔ عقل و ادراک‌شان سخن بگویید!) این کلام نغز را مولانا در مثنوی معنوی دستمایهٔ شعری در بارهٔ نوع سخن گفتن با کودکان قرار داده و چنین سروده است: "افتخار از رنگ و بو و از مکان هست شادی و فریب کودکان چونک با کودک سر و کارم فتاد هم زبان کودکان باید گشاد که برو کُتّاب تا مرغت خرم یا مویز و جوز و فستق آورم" برخی انسان‌ها بدبختانه به رغم رشد جسمی و گذران عمر، رشد عقلی و ذهنی لازم را پیدا نمی‌کنند و کودک‌صفت باقی می‌مانند. هر فردی در زندگی شخصی خود با این نوع افراد آشناست، اما در زندگی جمعی نیز گاه این نوع افراد نابالغ از نردبان قدرت بالا می‌روند و موقعیتی خطیر دست می‌یابند. به باور من دونالد ترامپ یکی از آن افراد است. او همچون فردی بالغ سخن نمی‌گوید و رفتار نمی‌کند. لاجرم حرف‌ها و رفتارهای بالغانه را نیز خوش نمی‌دارد! او آشکارا نیازمند نوازش دادن نوزاد درون خود از سوی دیگران است و از این جهت تحت تأثیر قرار می‌گیرد. تحقیر و تخفیف چنین فردی از سوی همتایانش در دیگر کشورها شاید دل‌هایی را خوش کند، اما بر رفتارش اثر منفی می‌گذارد. از نگاه من، در کشور ما بیان سخنان دل‌خوش‌کنک در بارهٔ ترامپ را باید به رسانه‌ها سپرد، اما دولت‌مردان لازم است با وعدهٔ مویز و گردو و پسته او را به رفتن به مکتب ترغیب کنند. به عبارت روشن‌تر اصلاً لازم نیست مسئولان رسمی ایران هر سخن ترامپ را به شیوهٔ خود او جواب دهند و او را به واکنش اندازند. برای یک فرد عاقل و بالغ، اصل، مضمون و محتوای آن امری است که در عالم واقع رخ می‌دهد، در مقابل، افتخار از رنگ و بو و از مکان، هست شادی و فریب و کودکان! نقل است که از اسحاق رابین نخست وزیر مقتول اسرائیل پرسیده بودند که چگونه یاسر عرفات رهبر فقید ساف را برای نشستن بر سر میز مذاکره راضی کرده است؟ رابین گفته است؛ سران اسرائیل هر بار با عرفات تماس برقرار می‌کردند و به او می‌گفتند، ما سالیان دراز با هم جنگیدیم و شما شکست خوردید، پس بیا برای حل منازعه مذاکره را آغاز کنیم. عرفات از این سخن خشمگين می‌شد و هر نوع مذاکره را رد می‌کرد. من اما با او تماس گرفتم و گفتم ابوعمار! ما سالیان دراز با هم جنگیدیم و شما پیروز شدید، پس بیا با آغاز مذاکره به این خونریزی پایان دهیم! عرفات در جوابم گفت؛ چه تاریخی و در کجا؟ باعث تأسف است که در این داستان، عرفات در موضع کودک و رابین در موضع بالغ نشسته است!
