GDP ratios are a comforting accounting fiction. Strip out finance, real estate inflation, tourism, and bureaucratic services, and Europe’s “9x” advantage collapses into a deindustrializing continent short on steel, chemicals, energy, and skilled trades. Russia’s wartime output of artillery shells, missiles, and armor already exceeds the combined European effort after years of “retooling” announcements. Paper armies and paper GDP do not produce 155 mm shells at scale. Europe has the spreadsheets. Russia has the factories running three shifts. One of those metrics decides wars. The other inflates PowerPoint decks.
Brett@BrettGrose

@KrasmenkoK @ConciousLabRat Europe is accelerating defence industrial base retooling is manufacturing. The EU has a GDP 9x Russias. A standing army 3x Russia….

Shaq and Kobe reacting to Wilt’s criticism of the Lakers: Shaq: "My mother told me to leave the elderly alone... He reminds me of my grandpa. Just talk." Kobe: "It's constructive advice... Whether it's positive or negative, I'm going to listen and try to change."

In April 1999, Wilt Chamberlain called out Shaq and the Lakers: "Everybody talks about his points when we should be looking closer at his rebounds and blocked shots and defense.” Wilt even defended a young Kobe, laying the blame for the Lakers' struggles on Shaq.

The US military is brainstorming "creative and unconventional" ways to punish Iran. Anyone with some creativity here?

U.S. OFFICIALS SAY NO NEW IRAN TALKS PLANNED: CBS U.S. officials told CBS News there are no new negotiations with Iran planned, despite President Trump's comments that talks would begin Monday. Officials said discussions continue through mediators involving U.S. envoy Steve Witkoff and the Iranian team. Meanwhile, Iran said it is not negotiating directly with the U.S., insisting current talks are with Oman and focus solely on shipping through the Strait of Hormuz.

BREAKING: US CENTCOM sent an email to a broad group of military analysts last week saying "we are looking for new creative and unconventional ways to pressure and punish Iran" because "we need ideas," per CNN. A source close to CENTCOM says "CENTCOM is looking at everything, acknowledging it needs to reevaluate the strategy." The crowdsourcing-style query, which military officials said was unusual over email, is one sign of the limited and potentially unpalatable options available to Trump to force Iran into a deal on his terms. This comes a week after a US official said Trump is "exasperated" and there was "not a real strategy for how long or what they should do."

US SPR down to 304.8mb and no amount of Trump talks or Bessent manipulation can refill it - the lower this goes the harder crude oil prices will be to manipulate and when the draw is forced to stop at some point below the 300mb threshold then is game over. Period.
JustDario@DarioCpx

In several hours we will get another US SPR update showing another draw that will bring it closer to the 300mb critical threshold after which the US will have to decide whether to keep draining or preserving the integrity of the salt caverns If the DOE is forced to stop a big tool used so far to keep oil prices suppressed in the spot market will be out of the picture increasing the upward pressure on crude oil prices

The only reason why the “Asian-American” community even exists today is because previous generations didn’t anticipate the world becoming multipolar and the internet had not yet enabled open discourse regarding race and ethnicity. Most “Asian-Americans” are deracinated ethnic Chinese stuck between two options: either marrying someone white and having offspring that can actually physically assimilate, or cutting their losses, expatriating, and creating offspring that are fully Chinese. It is exceedingly naive to assume it will be possible to maintain a distinct, non-assimilated Chinese identity over multiple generations during a time of geopolitical rivalry between China and America. Just ask the Japanese. Asian-American discourse assumes that immigration will continue in perpetuity because of America’s “freedoms”. In reality, most Chinese are rational actors that only immigrate because America has been an unregulated economic zone with no serious expectations of assimilation. They are unlikely to do so to any America that explicitly embraces a White Christian nationalist identity— especially as China itself approaches economic parity. By 2050, the "Asian-American" community will still exist— it will just be the descendants of today’s H1-B Indians. They will read about various episodes of history such as the Japanese-American internment camps and Covid-era Sinophobia, briefly wonder why they never encounter the descendants of the people involved, and then try to claim reparations and handouts on behalf of them.
Scott Chen@alreadydawn

Asian American culture is primarily based around consumption, and the little cultural output this group has produced unfortunately lacks aura and universal appeal. Films: Cringelords like Ken Jeong, Simu Liu, Awkwafina who lack the talent and looks to make it in Asia are given roles in Hollywood to fill DEI quotas (or to straight up make Asians look bad). Anime is popular but it’s made in Japan, and Asian Americans only watch, not create. Music: Asians Americans love EDM and festivals, but as listeners and attendees, not producers. The producers are overwhelming European or white Americans. Politics: Nearly no presence/representation. The few that are there, Ted Lieu and Andrew Yang, are whitewashed lolcows. Books: Some stories here and there, mostly focused on immigration. They’re nice but ultimately don’t make much of a splash. Games: League of Legends is made by white Americans. Pokemon is Japanese. Outside of some indie games, games played by Asian Americans are made by other groups. Most Asian Americans do not have mastery over the stories and histories of their root cultures, and thus lack the ability to combine that with their broader American culture familiarity to create something new and compelling. Since there is little unique about this group, it will be absorbed eventually, as @okthenfuture said.

The US 10-year yield is still well into TACO territory. But Iran is unlikely to grant it to him. Either he TACOs even harder... or he escalates.
