I never understood why "oriental" was considered a bad word. Its a cool sounding word and "the Orient" sounds exotic and mysterious, which are always desirable traits.

As an Asian, I believe we should revive the usage of the term "Oriental" to distinguish East Asians from South Asians, Arabs, and other races in Asia Everyone knows we're extremely different, yet we're lumped together simply because we share the same continent

Similar to "justifying your culture from first principles" is another absurdity imposed by the age of diversity, "describing your culture in stupidly concrete terms". No, British culture is not "having broken teeth, going to pub on a Sunday, eating unseasoned food", and to claim so is to lower the discourse to the level of 5 year-olds.

@firasmodad When I did Jury service the judge told us to use either "beyond reasonable doubt" or "if you're sure" and did not seem impressed when I pointed out they mean different things, and if it was the latter we might as well just deliver a not guilty before hearing any evidence.

They raised the "terror threat level" from "substantial" to "severe", after the event, and then said "don't be alarmed about the severe threat", as if having declared the "substantial" level had made anyone more or less safe.

A Wetherspoons manager in Braintree has just been caught on camera openly refusing to serve customers who support Reform UK. “I’m deciding that”, he smugly tells punters.
Refusing service over politics?! In a bloody pub?!
Reform UK is currently the biggest party in the country, leading the polls at 25-28%, favourites to win the next election.
These aren’t some fringe weirdos, they’re ordinary, hard-working Brits. The exact salt-of-the-earth customers who pack out Wetherspoons every week, keep the pints flowing and the lights on.
Without them, half these pubs would be broke. And some snotty little bar manager thinks he can play political gatekeeper? F*ck off!
That’s not how Britain works. You don’t get to ban paying customers because of who they vote for.
If you can’t handle serving people with different views, don’t work with the public. Simple as.
