@Tadamsmt @bluecowboy99 @Cotton_MT My children are in the group just teetering on the ledge of that KOA. No blood in the turnip. A group of middle class Montana's were thrown under the bus in this law in an attempt to make it constitutional against rich out-of-staters. That' lazy. It's unfair. It's a bad law.

@aunt_herami @bluecowboy99 @Cotton_MT If your family can't come up with another couple grand for a recreational second home before having sympathy for the people who've been living in KOAs and outside in tents for several winters now, don't expect my sympathy. I live in a double-wide trailer. Don't make assumptions.

Zohran's socialist "tax the rich" plan is basically indistinguishable from Montana's 2025 property tax shifts, except HB 231/SB 542 were actually even MORE expansively progressive & redistributive. Commie Zohran only targets 2nd homes >$5M. MT's HB 231/SB 542 hiked taxes on EVERY 2nd home, airbnb, family cabin etc. regardless of value. Who needs socialists for hardcore leftist class warfare when you have mtleg?🤷‍♂️

Universal HIGH INCOME via checks issued by the Federal government is the best way to deal with unemployment caused by AI. AI/robotics will produce goods & services far in excess of the increase in the money supply, so there will not be inflation.

@bluecowboy99 @Tadamsmt @Cotton_MT So family cabins will be sold to rich out-of-staters. $$$Mil homes will be sold to richer out-of-staters. And when the problem of unaffordable housing for new buyers isn't solved they will go after you, Tim, because anyone with $4K lower taxes has to be living in a McMansion.

I will be voting NO on final passage of the FISA 702 Reauthorization Bill if it does not include a warrant provision and other reforms to protect US citizens’ right to privacy. Yesterday I offered these 3 amendments to fix the program, but they were not allowed last night.

@Cotton_MT An uqualified no to the attempts to warp speed a Superfund site to the Bitterroot. An unqualified no to building the infrastructure so billionaires can tokenize and surveil every damn thing on the planet and turn our money on and off in a social credit system.

If we choose to, Montana can mine, refine, build, and power an American supply chain for world's next economic revolution.

@flatheaddems @DruKoester Elitist? Eye roll. What do you call the point of view that mommas need to be separated from their babies and pay exorbitant daycare so both parents can be taxed to pay teachers who can't teach?

@DruKoester One of the major hallmarks of our country has been a free public education. The assumption you were making is that parents should stay home to teach their children. This is an elitist point of view. Travel to see the hallmark of a developed country is a free public education.

Too much? Hardly. Did you know 9% of Montana students are homeschooled? This ranks us 3rd in the nation, with only Alaska and Tennessee pulling higher rates. Did you know homeschooled students frequently score 15-30% higher on standardized tests than the kids in the public system? That they often receive higher ACT & SAT scores? That they are more likely to graduate college than their peers? Meanwhile, public schools are spending almost $16,000 per student. The state budget for education is over a billion dollars. And, despite these bloated financial numbers, they are only scoring at a 50% proficiency rate… Pretty devastating, especially considering the cost. Clearly, this model isn’t paying off, and parents are recognizing that the way forward is NOT more of the same. Yet, homeschool parents are STILL required to report to and get permission from the public system (a public system that isn’t producing acceptable results) in order to make this educational decision. It sets up the premise that, by default, the children of Montana belong to the system, and their education being in the hands of their parents is an exception, not the norm. The model that is currently WORKING and producing results should not have to report to a supervisor who cannot replicate the standards they require in the competition. Currently, several states are better on homeschooling laws than we are. Texas has governed this way for years. Illinois pioneered homeschooling when it wasn’t cool. And our sister state Wyoming recently voted to basically deregulate. Montana should do the same. Options matter. They are better for students, parents, and teachers. Homeschooling should be an easy option for Montanans. — Dru Koester, Candidate for Senate District 41, Helena

@SamForstag Crazy indeed. But we don't need more day care. We need ways for mommas to be able to stay home with their babies.

Childcare in Montana is in complete crisis. Only one slot available for every two to three kids who need one, costing up to $19,000 a year for families who do find care. Two kids in preschool can cost as much as a mortgage. That's not right. It doesn't have to be this way.

@MTSpeakerLer That 68% tax increase on Montanans with cabins? That kind of meaningful progress? On Montanans who worked and saved their entire lives for their cabin? Many of them retirees. Trying to force them to sell to who? More rich out-of-staters?

Montanans are being priced out of their homes by rising property taxes. That is not right. We made meaningful progress last session, but lasting protection matters. Majority Leader Fitzpatrick and I support Senator Wylie Galt's ballot initiative to cap property taxes.

@lemmiwinkster And we give tax credits (SB 326) to the film companies to entice them here so they can seduce the hords from CA and NY with bigger pocketbooks to suck up our housing at rates unaffordable to Montanans.
