Each year, on #AnzacDay, we reflect on the service, sacrifice and courage of Australian & New Zealand service personnel in times of war & peace. We did so today at dawn in Phnom Penh. From Gallipoli to peacekeeping in Cambodia and so many other operations, #LestWeForget.

A fascinating and joyful past week watching Cambodians coming together in Phnom Penh and across the country to bring in the Khmer New Year. Very special to be able to witness a celebration so steeped in tradition.

I attended the opening sessions of Kem Sokha’s appeal hearing yesterday and today. We continue to call for a fair and transparent resolution to his case and urge Cambodia to take steps to expand civic and political space.

Congratulations to Dr. Cheunboran Chanborey on being awarded Australian Alumni of the Year! He has been a great counterpart and just returned from a very successful stint as Cambodia’s Ambassador to Australia. Another example of where an education in Australia can take you!

Loved meeting Navy, Sonthorng, Davin and Somneang at the SchneiTec solar farm. Graduates of 🇦🇺’s Women in Clean Energy internship program, these inspirational young women now are now helping to drive Cambodian’s clean energy future, and breaking down barriers for women in STEM.

Saw today how Australia is helping remote Cambodian communities access clean, affordable piped water. Through blended finance, an Australian-funded water treatment plant in Kampong Ous now provides clean water to schools and households that previously relied on raw river water.

Today, we screened ‘Boodjara’, a film about the Noongar people’s connection with land the ‘Water Land Forest’ Indigenous Festival, organised by four Cambodian indigenous organisations. Great to learn about the deep links Cambodian indigenous peoples have with their environment.

Australia has been a strong supporter of the Cambodian International Film Festival since 2019. It’s a great way to tell Australian stories here. Four Australian films (Kangaroo, Franklin, Boodjara & Interview with a Hero) are screening at this year’s festival.
