@EricLDaugh Does anyone else find it oddly strange that wherever ICE goes... ...traffic literally disappears??? This makes me think we have WAY more illegal aliens in the country than any of us possibly could imagine.

🚨 HOLY SMOKES! CNN just infuriated Democrats, showing video PROOF that "more TSA lines are open than normal" in Atlanta after the deployment of ICE "There may be a celebration here at the airport!" "Look, almost NO LINE, no WAITING. Unbelievable!" "There seems to be more lines open than normal, TSA workers are breezing people here. A lot of people are showing up SHOCKED with how short the lines are." @RapidResponse47 This is a huge win! ICE came in and likely saved Americans HOURS and missed flights. 🇺🇸

@SAshworthHayes You think people aren’t having kids because of car seat laws? Sure, it adds a bit of expense, but it’s nothing compared to the actual cost of another kid.

So the 12-year-old accused of shoving rocks in the mouth of a 12-year-old girl so his friend could r*pe her was just released by a judge. This is how you make repeat offenders

If bartenders can go to jail for over-serving alcohol to someone who then kills another person, judges should go to jail for releasing criminals who do the same.

@chriswithans Basically every argument against libertarianism boils down to "but without government we would have [problem that currently already exists with government]"

Unironically a big reason why I stopped being a Libertarian. Their solution would be for you to invest in light-defraying windshields while also joining the LED arms race. No thanks. Just cap the max default brightness of the lights. Use police to enforce such laws. This is why government exists.
New York Magazine@NYMag

Prior to flipping the Republican seat for Washington’s Third District in 2022, Congresswoman Marie Gluesenkamp Perez helped run an auto-repair and machine shop in Portland, Oregon. The trivial matters of the auto industry are closer to her than to your average politician, so it wasn’t surprising when she recently brought a sliver of that industry to Capitol Hill. “I don’t know how many of you drive and how often,” she said in the House Appropriations Committee last July, “but I will tell you there is a plague in this country of headlight brightness.” Her proposed amendment, which urges the Department of Transportation to investigate the headlight issue, passed through committee unanimously across party lines. And in September, Republican assemblyman Brian Miller introduced an act in the New York State Assembly calling for its own headlight investigation. How it got to the point where Democrats and Republicans are joining arms about anything at all is hard to fathom. And to someone like Gluesenkamp Perez, that makes headlights an opportunity to appeal to both sides of her purple congressional district. Read from Nate Rogers on the feasibility of headlight regulation in the U.S.: nymag.visitlink.me/LK4RpX

Watching Trump teeter on the edge of blowing up the world economy because of a combination of hubris, strategic incoherence, mendacity and outright stupidity, might be the most extraordinarily depressing thing I have observed in my entire life, or read about in any other period.

This election remains the immovable object vs. the irresistable force. Whichever candidate I'm focused on, I quickly become convinced there is no way he can win in Texas. Tossup.

@jt_ennis @jamestalarico Your guy said it was "existential" to reduce meat consumption to fight climate change and said "I am proud to say that our campaign has officially become a non-meat campaign..." There's no recovering from that.

@MCUfeld @SeanTrende TBH the general state of the country is so bad that when when you have two uninspiring candidates really the only thing that matters is culture war stuff. This shit just leaves a bad taste in the mouth of swing voters who are looking for any excuse to go the other way

NEW: Family of a Texas teen loses it as judge sentences him to 25 years in prison for robbing a convenience store. Judge Raquel West was seen torching 18-year-old Caden James Fontenette before handing out the sentence. "There was a time some years ago that there really wasn't even a question... State's attorneys were recommending youthful offenders probation. Let's give everybody an opportunity..." West said. "You don't have a good likelihood of being successful if I were to put you on probation... I'm going to sentence you to a term of 25 years." Fontenette pleaded guilty to aggravated robbery for a 2025 incident where he and two others robbed a convenience store at gunpoint. The suspects were caught on camera assaulting the store clerk. Fontenette will likely be in his 40s when he is released from prison.

@ankersophon @TruthHurts2223 @SandyofCthulhu They don't have to subsidize the million dollar home purchases. They subsidize the 350k homes which prices the 350k home people out and pushes them to stretch to 500k, and so on all the way up. Throwing thousands of dollars a month in subsidies is obviously gonna raise prices

The bishop of my former congregation worked in for the City of Berkeley. I was his clerk. He told us that when rent control got voted in, the landlords fell into two groups. One group jacked up their rents as high as possible before the law took effect. The others left their rents as was, trying to be nice guys. The "nice guys" then took it in the shorts. Some went bankrupt. Some just abandoned their buildings and let the city grab them for non-payment of taxes. Most followed the policy of never ever letting anyone new back into an apartment when someone moved out. The landlord end-game was if EVERYONE moved out of your complex, you could remodel the thing and then even Berkeley would let you calculate new rents. He said he knew of several apartment buildings in which only one tenant was left, hanging on for dear life. The owner just waiting for the guy to leave. Of course no landlord had any motivation to ever repair, repaint, or refurbish anything in a rent-controlled complex. When I moved to the East Bay I was pretty much pro-rent control. When I left, I thought it was the stupidest idea ever.
Mikli@CryptoMikli

Caleb Hammer explains why rent control doesn’t work “It’s one of those policies that sounds really good and really moral. You want to support it, landlords make less money and people pay less rent. But everywhere it’s been enacted, permitting has dropped significantly, and rents have gone up even faster for the average person, except for the few lucky ones in subsidized housing” “Units go untouched and aren’t maintained at all. I think something like 10-20% of rent controlled units in New York are empty because they can’t be brought up to standard, since it’s not worth investing in. In Massachusetts, rent control was a complete disaster and had to be repealed. In San Francisco, the moment they introduced it, permitting dropped. It just hasn’t worked”
