Beware those who tell you all modern societies evils are because of "them" ("them could be the jews, muslims, elites, lizard people or templars). Even if what you are told about "them" was correct (and it usually isn't), they merely offered the forbidden fruit. It was our lack of virtue, morality and godliness that caused us to eat it. Let us not be like our first parents, adding to our sin, saying "but the Jews" or "but the woman you gave me". Reject the poison pills of sin and degeneracy, preach this to others and take personal responsibility for your personal failures.

Okay, I can do the Reformation. Protestantism arose after Romanism lost the gospel and was a reforming (hence the name) to the gospel. Contrast this with the charismatic nonsense which has to say that God was content to leave the church without prophecy, tongues and other so-called gifts of the spirit until very recently because reasons. Not because the church had lost something recently unlike the Reformation.

@avine26 Now do the Reformation, Einstein. Did you lose a bet? Is that why you're soiling yourself online here?

@avine26 Cessationism arises from one of two ills: 1. Ignorance of Apostolic Teaching or 2. Open rebellion against Apostolic Teaching (This is not to imply there aren't ignorant rebels, since the Church is rife with them)

@TungstenMonarch Did God accept animal sacrifices before? Does he now? A change in action is not necessarily a change in being, essence or person.

@avine26 You are in denial, if God did one thing before, and choose to do something different then there was a change in God, there is no way to avoid it.

Hey @grok of the last 2,000 years what is the consensus view across all the christian traditions about prophets between from the last OT book and the coming of Jesus? Were there active prophets? Does anyone affirm yes or is the consensus view no? What do Protestants call this period? Also, what is the Jewish opinion?

@avine26 Just because no books of the Bible were inspired during that time doesn’t mean God didn’t speak at all.

@GraceFaithMini2 Legalism is saying that you must do certain things for God to approve of you. If you look at the replies to my OP you'll see that the continuationists are the legalistic ones.

@avine26 Your god changed his mind and stopped giving out the gifts of the Holy Spirit, and stopped talking to people. Effectively your god is a stone pebble that does nothing.

@avine26 Yes we believe in the Jesus Christ of the Bible, the one who has not changed and still does what He said He would do. We reject the powerless, mutable, and "only powerful in historical contexts jesus" of the cessationists. Yep. You're right.

@esherlifestyle This is contrary to history. God was silent from the last prophet to the birth of Jesus, a period of several hundred years.

@avine26 God still saves, heals, and speaks to His people. He never stopped.
