Longevity is the world’s biggest market, and for great reason. Nothing is more valuable than an incremental life hour… It is so surprising to me that more capital has not yet flooded the space given what is now possible.

I am super excited to share that @Starcloud_ has raised a $170M Series A at a $1.1bn valuation to fuel our development of data centers in space 🚀 The round comes after the successful deployment of our first satellite, Starcould-1, a few months ago, which had the first @NVIDIA H100 on board and was the first to train an LLM in space. The funds will be used to develop our third satellite, which aims to be cost-competitive with Earth-based data centers in terms of AI inference cost. The round was led by @Benchmark and @EQT Ventures, and we are excited to welcome Benchmark GP, @Chetanp Puttagunta, to our board. We are also excited to welcome other new investors, including the world's largest infrastructure fund, @Macquarie Capital, @SevenSevenSix 7️⃣7️⃣6️⃣, Manhattan West, Adjacent, Carya, GSBackers, and Harpoon. We are very grateful for the continued support of existing investors, including @NFX@NebularVC@YCombinator@FUSE_VC@Soma_Capital, 3Capital Partners, Wyld VC, Tiny VC, and Taurus Ventures. Onwards!

One of One I try as to spend as much time as possible doing things that only I am able to do, and conversely as little time as possible doing things where I feel replaceable. You may say that this is a luxury, and it is in some ways, but my optimistic point of view on the arc of humanity is that most people can actually spend a good amount of time being one of one at several things in their lives. And that this will only increase, contrary to the narrative that we will all be soon replaced by machines at what we do. As a mother, father, son or daughter, you can be one of one. So too as a friend or lover. In your work, you can also be 1/1. You don’t need to be Elon Musk to do that. Whatever you do with unique care and excellence, you do not do in replaceable fashion. Indeed, there are always ways in which we can express our unique interests, understanding of the world, love for the craft we do, that allow us to make something happen that wouldn’t have otherwise. The pitfall is to do things where you are just a cog in the system. There are many people in high paying finance, corporate or tech jobs who feel like what they do doesn’t really matter. And so what they do does not end up mattering. Others take a lot of pleasure in these jobs, and that is expressed in their work. Meanwhile, there are many people in less fancy-sounding jobs who are completely irreplaceable. Like great chefs, housekeepers, nannies, sommeliers, drivers, construction workers, and the list goes on. Some people just exude love and care and meaning in what they do. I’d rather be driven by an autonomous car than by a defeated and distracted driver who keeps checking their phone, but any day I’ll take an inspired and friendly driver over an expressionless machine. Yes, automation is coming for the world. This will “take” jobs in a sense, but the optimist in me again believes that it will mostly take on the unpleasant / dangerous jobs to start, and that there will always be room for great craftsmanship in whatever craft people choose. And if we really end up in a world where machines replace us in everything, then so be it. We can sit back and enjoy our universal income :) Maybe GPT wrote this anyway. No matter what it is, I’ve never loved feeling like I’m participating in a highly competitive game in an undifferentiated fashion. I’ve never loved the rat race, and don’t think anyone does. What can you do that no one else in the world can? In your personal life, socially, in your work… Where are you one of one? Spend as much time in that place as possible. It will lead to a happier life.
