@RapidResponse47 @POTUS If Spirit was critical it might make sense to bail them out but they're not. Let the market work.

United just quietly rebranded its premium transcon and Hawaii business-class cabins as Polaris. The big win: Polaris Lounge access is now included on these domestic routes. - EWR-LAX - EWR-SFO - EWR-HNL - ORD-HNL - ORD-OGG

Airlines in the GCC are preparing for layoffs amid ongoing geopolitical tensions and operational disruptions in the Middle East. Flight volumes remain well below pre-crisis levels even as partial recovery occurs: Emirates and Etihad are operating at roughly 65-70% capacity, while flydubai hovers around 40% and Qatar Airways has faced more severe constraints. This capacity cut has led to thousands of flight cancellations, stranded passengers, and prolonged uncertainty State-backed carriers hold substantial cash reserves, which helps buffer the shock compared to smaller or low-cost operators. However, prolonged instability is forcing cost-control measures across the board, including in ground staff, cabin crew, and support roles. Sectors linked to aviation and tourism (hospitality, events) are also seeing knock-on effects like pay cuts and redundancies in the UAE and wider GCC. Analysts describe 2026 as a "turbulent" or "defining" year for Middle East aviation — a supply-and-routing shock rather than a pure demand collapse. While long-term growth fundamentals (new aircraft orders, airport expansions, rising passenger traffic projections) remain strong, near-term profitability is under pressure, with thinner margins and cautious hiring. This situation highlights the vulnerability of hub-based models in geopolitically sensitive regions, even as global aviation demand overall shows resilience. Travelers should expect higher fares, fewer promotions, and disrupted schedules in the coming months.

All “big four” U.S. airlines now restrict how portable power banks can be stored and used in flight—as Delta Air Lines and United Airlines each report at least three lithium-battery incidents so far in 2026. Read more: forbes.com/sites/suzanner… Photo: Getty Images

#AirFrance #Premium #gastronomie #PaxE

Update - TAP A320 incident over Prague in January, which came dangerously close to the ground near Křivoklátsko, reaching altitudes as low as 968ft, before the crew reacted and climbed to a safe altitude Czech media zdopravy. cz published an interview with a local investigator stating that the flight´s captain ignored four warnings (two from the copilot and two from ATC) that he had descended below the minimum safe altitude (MSA) of 4000 ft in the area, stating that the emergency climb maneuver was only initiated after a GPWS alert, with the media reporting the aircraft was, quote “10 secs from impact” The same source pointed to a likely navigational error, leading the crew to believe that it was closer to the airport than it actually was, and that on the escape maneuver, there was, quote, “a 2G overload on the cabin”. Another remark by the investigator was that the aircraft´s CVR was not saved after the incident, although that is not unusual (see remarks at the end) The newspaper also quoted the investigator noting that there were other “organizational issues” with the flight. Regarding the CVR issue – according to our friend @EssenceOfSafety “There's no button for the crew to push to preserve cockpit voice recordings. Rather, the CVR has to be disabled by pulling a circuit breaker. This also legally grounds the aircraft and means that the return flight won't happen. At the same time, there is no certainty that the event will be investigated by the country's accident investigation board, which is due to the fact that the definition of serious incident is quite vague and subjective. Hence, it commonly happens that the crew continues as normal and the CVR is overwritten.” Link to the full article is in the comment section under Jan´s post below (the graphic seen here is from ASN)

🔴 A TAP Air Portugal pilot ignored four separate warnings before nearly crashing his Airbus A320neo into the hills near Prague Airport, this past January. Two warnings came from his co-pilot, two more from air traffic control. None of them made him pull up. Investigators believe he fell into a state of "tunnel vision" and misread the navigation map, thinking he was already 13 km closer to Prague than he actually was. He began descending as if on final approach to the airport, while still flying over forested terrain west of the city. The emergency pull-up only started at 295 meters above the ground. The plane climbed to 1,784 meters, with passengers experiencing 2G forces in the cabin during the sharp ascent. The crew then made a hard left turn to loop back and try the approach again, which investigators say further confirms the pilot believed he was already near the airport. To make things worse, the cockpit voice recorder captured none of the crew's communication during the critical moments. The pilots never pressed the required button after the incident, so the recording was overwritten. Investigators also noted that the crew arrived late at the cockpit before departure and skipped the mandatory pre-landing briefing. The final investigation report is expected later in 2026. #Aviation #TapAir

Now for XLR update: I smelled fumes before takeoff on both legs so that is still an issue on Airbus, the bathroom situation is ridiculous (1 in front & 3 in the back of coach) so we’re constantly moving carts to let people pass by, tight galley, trash management is difficult, crew rest seats are a joke, first class is so tight you can’t pass anyone in the aisle, premium economy/ coach meal trays are tiny so you’re stacking everything and it’s falling off… shall I keep going? It’s not flight attendant friendly. Hard to work, especially in first class where you’re dealing with the entertainment screens that have to be pushed aside every time you serve someone.
