Canadian police chief forced to make a video statement after his officers started running the plates of attractive women coming out of coffee shops and gyms. Ottawa police chief Eric Stubbs is calling on officers who use police databases to meet women to quit. Stubbs says these officers are turning police databases into "their own way to meet women." "We've seen members messaging vulnerable victims on calls that they've attended in an attempt to develop an intimate relationship," Stubbs said. Despite the accusations, Stubbs says the police force has committed to hiring enough women so that females make up 30% of the workforce, according to CBC.

Safety on public roads comes first. More than 1,200 people die on Arizona roads every year. Solving that should be the priority. That doesn’t mean jobs don’t matter. They do. But freezing technology in place is not a serious jobs strategy. Technology changes work. Some jobs change, some jobs fade, and new ones are created. Arizona cannot stop that transition. So we can either lead it or watch it happen somewhere else. I’d rather have those jobs created here. Privacy concerns are fair. But they are not unique to AVs. The answer is clear rules for data use, retention, and law enforcement access, not rejecting technology that could make roads safer. These are solvable issues. We should solve them while continuing to make our roads safer.
