@CaptBob_Nomadic Agreed the cabin should be cooler but fwiw in a 200, unless you run the packs off the engines and sit there >45% N1, the APU will actually do a much better job than both motors at idle. APU is still weak though compared to a real jet.

On UA5545 LEX-ORD. CRJ200 LEX-ORD. Full flight, over 100° inside. No airflow, everyone sweating their a$$ off. We taxi out and sit about 10 minutes…THEN I HEAR THEM START THE SECOND ENGINE! @united @SkyWestAirlines how about some common sense regarding fuel savings!

@Pflax1 Used to fully agree. Still mostly do. Flip side: there’s a portion of me that is somewhat relieved that theoretically, an autonomous car doesn’t have hatred for a bike on the road. Assuming the machine sees you and knows to give you space, it will.

The unmistakable reality is that the technology for self-driving cars is not ready for prime time. And yet people who walk and ride bikes are participating in a very dangerous beta test without consent.

118 people will die on our roads today. Where is the outrage? I’ve seen a lot of sensationalism around aviation lately. The fact is our aviation system is the safest in the world and all of us - investigators, regulators, airlines, employees, and manufacturers - are working to make sure it stays that way. I will say it again, the riskiest part your travel day is driving. That does not mean we don’t have more to do to ensure safety in our skies. Our work is never done. But imagine what could happen if we were just as focused on eliminating death on our roads: we could achieve zero…together. (Photo from North Las Vegas)

This monitor is sitting over the window at a Starbucks drive thru so the staff can monitor key metrics in realtime. I LOVE THIS Why? Well, I tend to see everything as a funnel and this monitor is tracking key metrics in the drive thru funnel. I also call this lifecycle of the order. I would imagine the metrics, like the amount a time a car has been waiting to get their order, are related to a concept I call the happy order. I’m sure Starbucks has a more granular set of metrics they track for understanding how well the funnel is operating but these here are “weather report” metrics meaning they’re designed to give the operators realtime instant feedback on how the system is operating so they can make adjustments if necessary. Finally, this picture just reinforces the Silicon Valley mantra of you get what you measure.

You often hear about the fatality rate per 100 million or 1 billion passenger miles in transportation statistics, but over the last 15 years, U.S. airlines have averaged less than 1 fatality per passenger *light-year* traveled
Ryan Radia@RyanRadia

3 weeks ago marked 15 years since Feb 12, 2009—the last multiple-fatality accident involving a U.S. passenger airliner (Part 121). 11.6 billion passengers have since boarded a scheduled U.S. airline flight, with just 2 passenger fatalities (Part 121: Southwest 1380; PenAir 3296)

It's #NationalPigDay! Dating back to the early 60s, a prank played by carriers in the Mediterranean was to surprise their relieving carrier by releasing greased pigs on the flight deck. This 1986 video is of a helicopter from USS America dropping off pigs on USS John F. Kennedy.

I read that United Airlines would save $80M a year in fuel costs if its customers lost an average of 10 pounds. 🤷‍♂️
