Coinbase input is ONCE per BLOCK and limited to 100 bytes. We are arguing about many times per TRANSACTION with no effective limit. No one serious can use Satoshi's coinbase input as evidence of "spam." It is a ridiculous claim on its face. Further, I, and most proponents of BIP-110 have no problem with 83 bytes in OP_RETURN. To reiterate about why Satoshi did what he did with the coinbase input, so you can no longer argue from ignorance: 1. Make a political statement about the PURPOSE of bitcoin (fix the money) permanently embedded into the very thing designed to do that job. Note that he didn't talk about the weather or use a random headline 2. Set apart the genesis block as something special 3. By using a newspaper article headline he could not have known prior to its publication, proves the date of the first block, arguing against any pre-mining activity on his behalf (like using a newspaper in a photo to set a maximal prior date the photo could have been taken)

I run a node. It has a block size limit. If it did not, I wouldn’t run it. As for content, I don’t want data that can be assembled into vile images on my node. I also don’t really want transactions by the North Korean government on it either. But alas. I If someone proposes a way to exclude vile images from bitcoin consensus, I’m happy to check it out. This current fork still has many ways to get them in there, it’s under a year old, and the implementation that supports it only has one maintainer, and I don’t particularly want to run a one-maintainer node implementation. One of my favorite features of Bitcoin is how resistant it is to change. If it could change easily, I’d sell it. Big fan of market forces though. People have a right to try to fork.

Weird, all this time I thought bitcoin was designed to BE trustless, capped-supply money. Now I find out from these geniuses that it was designed as a benevolent collection of code and money just emerged from it. I had it totally backwards! This framing changed my mind and now we can never make the sound money argument against non-monetary use cases. TL;DR - bitcoin isn’t money, money emerged from bitcoin /sarcasm

@ts_hodl That isn't correct. But that is the exact reason why they will do it. Because there is no risk of being on a dead chain on BIP110, because every single block is valid across the entire network. The only risk of being on a dead chain is on the legacy (non-BIP110) chain.

Need to get something off my chest about something that happened a couple weeks back with the original version of this bip110 merchant list The list caused a bit of a stir due to having incorrect information and was quickly updated to remove the questionable entries, and after just two days there was only fully verifiable information on the list and I fully vouch for the current version The old, wrong version of the list was up for only a day or two, so i doubt much damage was caused, but the way the situation resolved doesn't sit right with me because bitcoiners are obligated to call out lies and bullshit when we see it, especially when it comes from us or people who are "on our side" Accordingly, I am calling out myself and one other member of the "monetary maximalists" group for dishonesty during this brief episode Originally there were a bunch of entries that said "planned". I was unsure what these meant, but I was assured that they were based on solid information After becoming impatient and posting a screenshot of the list on my account, it slowly became clear that the "planned" section of the list had been more or less completely fabricated by one of the group members He later apologized for making "errors" on the list, but the "errors" were so egregious that they could only have been complete fabrications At first I tried to defend the list because I didn't want to have to delete a bunch of companies which would have made it look like bip110 was losing support, when really the support the entries represented were never real in the first place I ended up leaving the list up much longer than was appropriate, and should have removed the "planned" entries as soon as their reliability was called into question This whole thing is silly because the list of actual, verified entries is something we should be proud of. The "Sparkcore" SSP is building a profile on you: it logs every payment you make and the pubkey of every lightning node you pay to. It has a CHAINALYSIS integration inside that registers who you pay and runs "RISK SCREENING" on your txs with a 3rd party. Not very private...

After a decade of blockspace fears and non-monetary-use panics, Bitcoin still has no spam problem. Fees are 1 sat/vB: anyone can move any amount globally with immediate processing for ~$0.30. The free market has always solved Bitcoin’s blockspace challenges. $BTC
