@SybreWaaijer @HaktanSuren Precisely. There was zero need to change the colours and so 7.0 is a regression. No time or effort should have been invested in that. And the quip about contributions: many valid ideas and proposals are shut down.

@HaktanSuren What? There was a better default. Also, the project isn't open to most contributions and quickly rejects any opinion, even when backed by science. Have you ever tried contributing?

WordPress 7.0 discourse is a good reminder: Open source is not a restaurant. If a color hurts your eyes, say exactly where, propose the better default, or send the patch. Complaining is easy. Stewardship is the part that keeps free software alive.

@KatieKeithBarn2 Totally agree! Since it's the default, it should be toned down a bit. Interface colours need restraint and the old colour was fine.

In some ways I like it, and it reminds me of Iconic's branding (or at least Iconic's branding until last week 😞). However, I personally think it's too bold to impose on all websites, because something that specific will almost certainly conflict with the site's individual branding. I know you can overwrite it and customize the color scheme, but most won't, so the default should be modern but neutral.

Here are before-and-after pictures of the WordPress 7.0 admin redesign. The left nav is a definite improvement, but the overall look and feel still looks dated due to the grey backgrounds in the main column. Hopefully that's the next phase.

@srikat Never understood this app. I just use speech to text with Wispr Flow and call it a day. It's at 99.x % accuracy.

@Todd_Spence 100%! The epitome of '80s cool. I rewatch every year. Let's hope Miami Vice '85 will channel some of that energy.

@juneleedesign @webflow The sad truth is they don't want you as a customer. They're pushing you out in favour of enterprise clients. Just move to WordPress where you actually own your stack, control your pricing, and have so much more flexibility. Look at builders like Bricks or Etch.

Who ever is working at @webflow must live in a bubble. Most of the sites I build are for professionals like lawyers, real estate agents, musicians, restaurants, individual healthcare professionals, beauty professionals etc. They don’t have marketing teams. More ranting below....

Tax and accountancy software and bookkeeping industry have perverse incentives to keep the tax code and bookkeeping hard so you have to keep paying a lot for their software and to hire them If they let AI just do it via their APIs, their value woudl go to $0 fast!
Ingmar Bruinsma@Kingmar1991

@levelsio Should not be that hard for companies to provide a pull function. Just that. So you can pull stuff after you've gotten a token from them. I don't see how that is negatively impacting anyone. If I hack your password for your login to download your invoices, that's the same thing.

Anyone here also got these emails from Google around 2 hours back! Even for the properties which have been verified for years for my email - Google saying this 🤔🤔 which is weird!! "Google systems confirm that on April 12, 2026 we started collecting Google Search impressions for your website in Search Console." #SEO

i can confirm if you are talking to AI with just your keyboard you are missing out. Get a good voice to text software now and speak raw unfiltered ideas to your AI. much better output consistently.

New year, new defaults: - Google Chrome → Helium - Workflowy+NotePlan → UpNote (since I'm also using Linux and Windows) - Anybox → Raindrop free version (same reason as above) - LaunchBar+Raycast → Monarch (has Instant Send!) What else should I try out this year? (copying the popular format going around Twitter atm)

@valigo That's what you're doing right now as well, though. You pay for the entire library, too. Even if you don't need all of it.

@bartderuyck Why would I pay for components I don't need? And do I lose access to it if I stop paying? Or do I get to keep the version that I already use?

Making a business on top of open source software already was near impossible. And now OSS maintainers who want to earn money are extra screwed. AI will scrape your project site, users will never visit it for documentation and will never know about your commercial product. And we're not talking about some random small library. This is the world's most used CSS framework that's growing day by day. At this point, the only thing you will be able to do in open source is upselling LLM tokens.

@valigo For ongoing access to the library, with new components added periodically, why not? It could even be a two tier system, with a low yearly fee for solo devs and higher fees for teams. But recurring. To be clear, this is one option. But the current model isn't working.
