The Weekend on MS NOW@TheWeekendMSNOW

“The purpose of coming out… is really so that the people who are not yet out can see the full, loving, happy, joyful, connected lives that queer people have and can have” @themelster on the power of visibility in the fight against the Florida “Don’t Say Gay” bill #SundayShow

@BombshellCole My grandmother was the neighborhood Granny. She raised a whole subdivision. Even when those kids got older they would come visit. And if they got locked out or something they knew Granny was safe & they could come to her until their parents came home…

Do the hood grannies still run in home daycares? Because baby… they used to be EVERYTHING. Them babies was fed, potty trained, knew their ABCs, and got fussed at just enough to stay in line. They might’ve had a little cereal in their bottle, watched Maury all day, and about 12 kids in a two bedroom, but they were loved, safe, and somebody was watching them like a hawk. And it was AFFORDABLE! We lost the recipe when Ms Linda stopped keeping kids.

Justin Fairfax murdered his wife Cerina in their home, then killed himself and left their kids to pick up the pieces. As Black men, we need to be clear in moments like this: nothing is worth killing a Black woman. Nothing. Pain is real. Divorce is real. Depression is real. Rage is real. But none of it justifies violence against a woman. Too many Black women carry the weight of loving men who haven’t healed. Too many children are left to pick up trauma they didn’t create. A man who cannot control his anger is dangerous. And too often, the people closest to him pay the highest price. We don’t want excuses when others kill us. We shouldn’t make excuses when Black men kill Black women either. Accountability must be consistent. Protection must be intentional. Healing must be a priority. I grieve for Cerina, her children, and everyone who loved her. And I want Black men to hear this plainly: If you harm a woman, that is not manhood. Get help before you become harm.

the people who want NYC to be a car city should just move to anywhere else in America tbh. it takes a special level of entitlement to want the one dense walking city in the US to be a parking lot, when you have your pick of parking lot cites to choose from.
fully fund transit@crosstown_line

if you want NYC to be a car city, you’ve got to at least stick to your script… so which is it? is driving everywhere a sign that you’ve made it in NYC? or are cars the vehicle of the humble working class family struggling against bike-loving, soy-eating transplants?

Mayor Zohran Kwame Mamdani
To all Sikh New Yorkers: Happy Khalsa Sajna Diwas and Vaisakhi! This joyous holiday commemorates the founding of the Khalsa by Guru Gobind Singh ji, a defining moment that established the Sikh identity and its call to serve humanity selflessly, protect the religious rights of all, and stand against political oppression, tyranny, & discrimination. May we all carry forward the spirit of Vaisakhi as we work together to build a city rooted in freedom and belonging for all.

Q: “What would you say to Elon Musk about waste, fraud, and abuse?” Zohran Mamdani: “I would say that this isn’t actually a right wing concern. It’s a concern right at the heart of leftwing politics because as people who care deeply about public goods, we care just as deeply about public excellence. And we know that if we want New Yorkers to believe in the power of government to deliver for them, we have to show that every single dollar in our budget is going towards exactly that. We’re proud to be looking for inefficiencies or examples of fraud or waste across city government, eliminating them, and then delivering on what people actually voted for”

@jimfornyc @SoyBoyOfficial @MeidasTouch @brandk110 We’re arguing about who should pay for it. You want to nickel and dime everyone. We think wealth inequality is out of control and people who own more than one home have superfluous wealth, thus capacity pay. You’re trying to fool us with what is essentially a “flat tax” on goods.

NEWS: Huge first win for Mayor Mamdani’s tax-the-rich plans in NYC. Mamdani just secured a deal with Gov. Hochul to create the state’s first-ever tax on $5 million+ second homes owned by ultrawealthy out-of-state residents. Hochul hopes to raise $500 million annually that would be used to address the city’s deficit.

Every time Zohran named off some accomplishment at his speech, a Black Muslim elder kept shouting HAMDOOLA (praise be to God) which was both beautiful and awkward because he was genuinely supporting the Mayor but most people probably thought he was heckling lol
