Let me explain what just happened 👇 5 minutes before the President announced a halt to attacks on Iran… someone placed a $1.5 BILLION bet on stocks going up and dumped $192 million in oil. 5 minutes… These trades were 4 to 6 times larger than anything else in the entire market. Whoever did this wasn’t guessing. You don’t risk $1.5 billion on a hunch. There was zero public indication this announcement was coming. No leaks. No press. Nothing. The only people who knew were in the room when the decision was made. Someone in that room picked up a phone. And within minutes they made more money than most Americans will earn in a thousand lifetimes. In a single trade. On a war that cost you $4+ a gallon gas and $16 billion in tax dollars. American citizens funded this war. Politicians are profiting from it. This is not the first time. Every major announcement from this administration has had massive suspicious trades right before it dropped. Tariff reversals. Policy shifts. War decisions. This is the most blatant insider trading operation in the history of American politics. It’s not even close. And it’s happening over and over in broad daylight. You would go to federal prison for trading on a tip from your cousin. These people are front running war decisions with billion dollar bets and nobody will ever ask a single question. Nobody will be investigated. Nobody will be charged. By tomorrow this will be buried under the next satisfying headline. Just like last time. And the time before that. The game is rigged. And they’re not even trying to hide it anymore…

BREAKING: Just five minutes before Trump's announcement to halt the attacks on Iran, massive trades reportedly hit the market. In one move, $1.5 billion in S&P 500 (ES) futures was bought while $192 million in oil (CL) futures was sold. These orders were 4–6x larger than anything else at the time. The trader seemingly made huge gains. Unusual.

Nearly every railroad in the U.S. runs on the same width track. 4 feet, 8.5 inches. That standard wasn’t inevitable. It was forced. In 1886, the South converted its entire rail system to match the North in just two days. Thousands of miles of track shifted. At the same time. From that point on, the country moved on one gauge. Freight. People. Military logistics. One measurement, locking everything into compatibility. You don’t notice it. But almost everything moving across the country depends on it.

In the ’80s, Bell Labs researchers, bored and frustrated by Unix’s limitations, built Plan 9—an OS embracing radical simplicity and purity. Filesystems? Networks? Devices? Everything became a file. No special cases, no shortcuts. Predictably, admins hated it: Plan 9 demanded you relearn everything, treating familiar tools as outdated relics. It gained a small, cultish following—mostly academics and masochists—then faded quietly. Today, Plan 9 lingers like an eccentric cousin at Unix’s family reunion, misunderstood, overlooked, and smugly confident it’s still fundamentally superior to its bloated sibling.

@zacbowden Screenshot you shared with context menu is super early debug build; it will be in Settings for selfhost. There are a few things here and there, plus final UI polish, but overall looking good already. I'm almost sure you'll not able to set custom size, only default and expanded.

BREAKING: Microsoft just announced several major changes to Windows 11 in an effort to win back user trust and evolve the platform into something people will actually want to use over macOS and Linux! It's a huge announcement that addresses Windows 11's biggest problems today, tackling core fundamental issues such as unreliable system performance, UX consistency, AI bloat and general enshittification. Microsoft has confirmed that this year, it WILL be reducing where ads and Copilot appear throughout the system, including in Start, Widgets, Notepad, Photos, and more! File Explorer and Windows Search will be upgraded with improved performance and capabilities that make finding apps and files much faster and easier. The OS will become lighter with less RAM and system utilization at idle, making it smoother to run on low end hardware with limited memory. These improvements will also benefit high-end PCs too. Windows Update will be improved with more granular controls and the ability to postpone updates for longer, along with reducing how often the OS needs to restart to install an update. Microsoft has also confirmed that it's bringing back fan favourite features such as the ability to move the Taskbar! It's also working to update more areas of the system shell with modern WinUI designs, which should make Windows 11 feel more coherent and complete. There's much more in the announcement, and it honestly all sounds too good to be true. Microsoft really is listening to feedback, and is eager to make Windows the BEST desktop OS on the market. More details including when these changes will arrive in the link! windowscentral.com/microsoft/wind…

This is cartoonish. A +21°F (+11.7°C) national anomaly over the 1991–2020 baseline is the kind of number you’d expect from a broken model run… not reality. Yet here we are. March 20th and the entire country looks like late May (or worse). Records falling coast to coast, warmth saturating everyregion. But sure—tell me more about how this is “natural variability.” 🤣

The concept of planners wanting to demolish and rebuild every part of the city that was more than 20 years old
Lady of the Lurk@enlchicago

@Kurt_Steiner @Eric_Erins As early as the 1930s and 40s, Chicago planners had a very solid prediction of which blighted neighborhoods would be rebuilt and how some then-stable areas would struggle.

If you’ve ever wanted to witness the single, most insulting and dishonorable moment, we’ve had with one of our greatest allies, this was it. As someone that worked in Japan for literally 12 years, I’ve never been more humiliated to be an American on the world stage… Ever and that’s saying a lot.
Acyn@Acyn

Reporter: Why didn't you tell allies about the war before attacking Iran? Trump: We wanted it to be a surprise. Who knows better about surprise than Japan? Why didn't you tell me about Pearl Harbor?
