Many are revelling in the fact that Delhi Gymkhana is on the verge of being taken over. Their logic is clear: It is on public land at subsidized rates that is not open to public. The logic is sound but if you adopt that principle you will realise that there are many whose properties can be taken over. Many will realise that even their homes are on land that is given on subsidized rents. In Mumbai - that is as much a norm as it is an exception. Homes are built on collector land/port trust land/leasehold land where residents are paying much lesser than they should be. In many cases - the purpose of giving the land and its actual usage are very different. To any observer the violation will be apparent. So yes - its fine to revel in an elite bastion being put on notice. But don't get carried away with the principle. Your own asset may be next.

@asadowaisi The original Hindu law does not recognise divorce nor does it recognise bigamy. It was Dr. Ambedkar who framed the modern version of Hindu code of marriage and succession. It is being applied to all communities with UCC.

The Assam Uniform Civil Code is not uniform at all. It completely exempts tribal communities from UCC’s coverage. Every community has the right to protect its culture under Article 29, but why is only the tribals’ autonomy being protected? This is the imposition of a law that no one wants. The constituent assembly did not envision a mandatory UCC. In Islam, no one can exclude an heir from inheritance. No one can write a will to give their whole property to one son or deny their daughter inheritance. This UCC allows anyone to write a will and deny their daughters their fair share. This is far from a gender just law.

When Dr. Ambedkar arrived from Columbia, Shahu Maharaj personally visited him to Congratulate and gave funding for his first fortnightly the "Mookhnayak". Dr. Ambedkar was later supported by Tilak's Elder son who was outcasted and Disowned by Tilak family. Ambedkar fought his case.
