Two Indian families earn the exact same 30 lakh household income.
Family A: Husband earns 30L, wife is a homemaker.
Family B: Husband earns 20L, wife earns ₹10L.
Same total income. Same lifestyle. Same expenses.
Yet Family A ends up paying significantly more tax compare to B despite having same household salary.
India taxes individuals, not families. A homemaker managing the house, children, and elderly parents gets zero recognition in our tax system.
Why should single-earner middle-class families be penalized like this?
We need optional joint tax filing for married couples.

The elites cannot save themselves with the horrid of daily reality which many Indians live. Either make such facilities available for everyone or give up yours as well. People earning well over 10+ crores cant afford such facilities but ex Babus and Veterans get to use them for free.

Mr. Owaisi is trying to polarise the situation by claiming attacks on Muslim Law. But the current Hindu law is also a modern construct it is situated for a new way of life. The Hindus adopted this law in 1955 and as per UCC it is being brought in for Muslims as well.

The Assam Uniform Civil Code is not uniform at all. It completely exempts tribal communities from UCC’s coverage. Every community has the right to protect its culture under Article 29, but why is only the tribals’ autonomy being protected? This is the imposition of a law that no one wants. The constituent assembly did not envision a mandatory UCC. In Islam, no one can exclude an heir from inheritance. No one can write a will to give their whole property to one son or deny their daughter inheritance. This UCC allows anyone to write a will and deny their daughters their fair share. This is far from a gender just law.

@asadowaisi The original Hindu law does not recognise divorce nor does it recognise bigamy. It was Dr. Ambedkar who framed the modern version of Hindu code of marriage and succession. It is being applied to all communities with UCC.
