We must respond to the message that voters have sent us and break with the status quo once and for all. We must confront the big challenges the public face with real answers. That is how we will deliver the change that people are desperate for and build a stronger and fairer country. theguardian.com/commentisfree/…

These have been a very difficult set of elections. I’ve felt that in Sunderland. But the answer is not to turn inwards. It’s to take responsibility, come together & face up to the challenges ahead. Keir has won before, he can win again. We need to deliver change, not chaos.

Nobody should be launching a coup, we need to give party chance to have a thorough discussion about what has happened, why & what’s needed now but everything has to be on agenda. Keir will need to put party & country first in judging whether he is risking opening door to Farage.

"The animosity towards Keir Starmer is beyond anything I've ever experienced." John McDonnell has a reality check for the Labour MPs who have been claiming everything has been rosy on the doorsteps.

@AaronBastani It’s as if this was the plan all along. What would Starmer have done differently if this wasn’t the plan?

Labour getting wiped out in areas where Starmer purged not just activists, but councillors & candidates - almost always for factional reasons. That seemed okay, in short term, but it means they have zero resilience in a crisis. The party is going to collapse in much of country.

Dear GPEW members @greenparty here's your leader. Is this how would-be Prime Ministers (😂 I know but stick with me) typically relate to journalists? I have always respected GPEW as a legitimate progressive party of the left...

@OliverRyanUK You're polling fourth in what has been a de facto 2 party system mate. Shut the fuck up, Labour are irrelevant now.

Lots of Reformers and Greens loving this poll - surprise, the election is 4 years away, chill - all I'll say is: populist cranks on the right breed populist cranks on the left, & vice versa, ultimately neither have any real answers when they come into contact with the real world.

@PhilipProudfoot Frame it this way - if he wanted to completely trash the Labour Party, what would he have done differently? The guy’s a plant.

@Hutch_Online @ThangamDebb I think it’s probably (as always) more insidious than this looks. Soon you’ll see these opera groups “merging” as a way to cut the arts budget even more. Gradual erosion of arts and culture in the UK. Once it’s gone, it’s not coming back.

@ThangamDebb No one really cares about this. But when you lose your Labour safe seat in a Labour landslide GE victory you take whatever wins you can get.

@Hutch_Online One of the most evil things I’ve seen them do is pass the assisted dying legislation and weeks later cut millions from disability allowances. This is not a coincidence. And it’s fucking frightening when the penny drops.

@DawnButlerBrent And you'll be raising point after point from this in the Commons, and calling for Starmer and McSweeney to resign on every public appearance you make until it happens? You knew this was going on for years.
