New York is about to make a massive mistake. The NY State Senate is advancing a proposal to decouple from federal QSBS (Section 1202) — the tax provision that lets startup founders exclude gains on qualifying exits. If this passes, founders would owe 10-13% in combined state and city tax on exits that are tax-free at the federal level and in nearly every other major tech state. Even worse: it's retroactive to January 1, 2025. This comes right as the federal government just expanded QSBS benefits and New Jersey moved to full conformity. New York wants to go in the opposite direction. As a seed investor in NYC who has backed hundreds of companies, I can tell you: founders are mobile. If New York becomes one of the most punitive states for startup exits, the best founders will simply build somewhere else — and the jobs, tax revenue, and innovation will follow. NYC has built something special over the last two decades. This proposal puts it all at risk for a short-sighted revenue grab. If you're a founder, investor, or anyone who cares about the NYC tech ecosystem — please sign the TechNYC open letter before Monday below 👇🏾👇🏾👇🏾 Keep building, NYC 🗽

@taylorotwell It really, and thank you for that foresight! I feel very pampered working with Claude and Laravel Boost compared to any other frameworks that require all sorts of extra help to get things right.

Laravel was so far ahead of the game with Laravel Boost tbh. Like almost a year ahead. Still so much work to do. The definition of who can be a Laravel developer is about to get very broad.

@colincameron_ @laravelphp Yeah just had to run it from the normal Claude CLI. Other commands from Boost were showing up in the Claude plugin but not this one. Not sure why.

Laravel 13 is here. This update focuses on AI-native workflows, stronger defaults, and more expressive developer APIs. If you're running Laravel 12 or higher you can run /upgrade in Laravel Boost and have your agent upgrade your app for you.

@pushpak1300 @laravelphp Ah, I'm using Claude as a VSCode plugin. These options aren't shown there at all (although some others are). This works directly from the CLI. Thank yoU!

@taylorotwell We just built a new and pretty significant feature using the SDK and boost… oh my god was that easily. Claude made all the right decisions guided by boost and the SDK took away all of the hard parts. Thank you so much, really.

For the longest time I was bothered that “Documentation” link on phpstan.org led directly to “Getting Started” page, and that some really useful docs pages weren’t discoverable at all. Starting today, it’s boxes describing what use-case/problem the page solves.

@freekmurze This is awesome, and well deserved. Though six-months is not as generous as I'd expect. @AnthropicAI should offer something more long-term for widely used OSS maintainers like Spatie as they really benefit from your code and packages.

I applied for Claude’s discount for open-source maintainers and got it 🥳

Spanish PM Pedro Sánchez: Starting next week, my government will implement the following actions: First, we will change the law in Spain to hold platform executives legally accountable for many infringements taking place on their sites. Second, we will turn algorithmic manipulation and amplification of illegal content into a new criminal offense. Third, we will implement a hate and polarization footprint system to track, quantify, and expose how digital platforms fuel division and amplify hate. Fourth, Spain will ban access to social media for minors under the age of 16. Platforms will be required to implement effective age verification systems — not just checkboxes, but real barriers that work. Fifth and last, my government will work with our public prosecutor to investigate and pursue the infringement committed by Grok, TikTok, and Instagram.

@taylorotwell I still think Laravel is missing more of the "one right way to do things" mentality. It's great to be able to do everything a hundred different ways but it's software… it saves everyone time having limited "correct" ways.

@PovilasKorop I do, it just depends on how interesting they are to follow along with. With his videos I'm always learning something new so it's not boring.

@europeanleft Did you know all of those other symbols in this nicely designed poster are the other groups targetted for extermination? Any reason you only choose to honor one group?

@WhatsApp Do you read the messages before they're encrypted and sent? Is the meta data sent unencrypted?

Your WhatsApp messages are private. We use the open-source Signal protocol to encrypt them. • Encryption happens on your device • Messages are encrypted before leaving your device • Only the intended recipient has the keys to decrypt messages • The message encryption keys are not accessible to WhatsApp or Meta Any claims to the contrary are false.

I had no idea Waze made me this vulnerable. They’re an Israeli network, their former name was literally FreeMap Israel before it was Waze. I was exposing my location public everyday for years. Bye-bye Waze.
