This hasn’t just been a short-term dip, though. These numbers have been pretty consistent since he joined the league. At some point, it stops being about role or system and just becomes a pattern in his output which is down to his profile and mechanics as a player. When a player is repeatedly putting up low xG, low shot volume, and fairly modest overall production over a long period, that says something about their actual impact.

With all due respect, the guy is averaging 0.07 xG p90 (which is horrific) and 0.22 xA p90, which is actually plausible. However, an accumulation rate of around 0.30 xG + xA p90, w/a 1.2 p90 shot count, it’s still a horrible set of numbers based on league average. Football is a game based on goals, and you create value by fielding as many players as possible who contribute to that. Sancho certainly doesn’t. This doesn’t even get into the imbalance he would cause in the front line. I thought we all learned from his first stint?
